Feel the thrill of snow-covered slopes and fun tubing hills.

7. Visit the New Jersey Botanical Garden & Skylands Manor
Experience a castle-like estate and plethora of beautiful gardens year-round. The NJBG is located within Ringwood State Park, which also offers nice hiking trails. I recommend visiting around May to June. Admission is typically free, but there may be a parking charge during the summer season on select days.

8. See the Cherry Blossoms at Branch Brook Park
Discover stunning blossoms at the nation’s largest cherry blossom collection. The flowers are usually in bloom beginning early April into mid-April.

9. See a Field of Daffodils at Reeves Reed Arboretum
Delight in a golden field of daffodils at this Arboretum. The best time to visit is Mid-April typically. It is free to visit the grounds, except on Daffodil Day, which is an event that will be held on Sunday, April 13th from 11 AM to 3 PM.

16. Go Whale Watching in Cape May
Spot migrating whales and dolphins along the coast. Eventhough you aren’t guaranteed to see whales when you do the boat tour, it’s still a quintessential Jersey Shore experience you’ve got to do at least once in your life. Tours are offered through Cape May Whale Watcher.

17. Explore Willowwood Arboretum
See blooming flowers and tall trees as you wander this free public garden. I recommend visiting in the spring/summer.

18. Rudolf W. van der Goot Rose Garden
Wander amidst fragrant, blooming roses at this iconic Somerset County public garden. The best time to visit is early-to-mid June.

19. See Peonies in Bloom at Peony’s Envy
Wander through vibrant gardens of these stunning flowers. Peony’s Envy requires paid admission for its display garden, which will be open this year from April 25th to June 8th. Their cut flower fields are expected to open the end of May.

20. Go Birdwatching at Cape May Point State Park
Spot colorful migratory birds year-round, but particularly in the spring. This is a free state park that features lovely walking trails as well.

Take in panoramic ocean views. Tickets to climb up the lighthouse can be purchased on-site. I recommend pairing this with a stroll around Cape May Point State Park, which is free to wander.

22. Visit the Ocean City Boardwalk
Enjoy classic rides, treats, and beach vibes.

Pedal through nature and historic sites when you take a railbiking tour with Rev Rail Co. This is the perfect afternoon activity to add into a weekend stay in Cape May! I recommend booking a tour sometime between May and October.

25. Visit Island Beach State Park
Escape to a serene beach getaway when you visit the 10-mile stretch of Island Beach State Park. There is a fee to enter during peak summer season and parking is limited.

26. Stroll the Asbury Park & Ocean Grove Boardwalk
Enjoy vibrant boardwalk culture with local shops, eateries, and ocean breezes. It is usually free to park in Ocean Grove, so I like to park there and then walk to Asbury! While you’re in Asbury, check out Cookman Ave and get a delicious dinner at Talula’s.

27. See the Roses at Deep Cut Gardens in Middletown
Explore manicured gardens filled with fragrant blooms. Deep Cut Gardens is a free Monmouth County park that is known for it’s rose garden in the summer season. Check out Tatum Park across the street for some hiking trails!

28. Visit the Leonard J. Buck Garden
Wander around this stunning, free public garden during the spring and summer months to take in vibrant blooms. The best time to visit is during the warmer seasons.

Paddle through the Delaware River and take in scenic landscapes. Kayak rentals are available through Delaware River Trips, which is based right over the border in PA. They also offer rafting adventures!

30. See a Concert at the Stone Pony Summer Stage
Rock out at this iconic venue in Asbury Park! Here’s the 2025 lineup. The Sea.Hear.Now Festival in Asbury Park is typically held mid-September.

31. Explore Batsto Village in Wharton State Forest
Discover a preserved 19th-century glassmaking town. Enjoy walking trails as well!

Soar through the treetops for an adrenaline rush. This is a great outdoor activity for those seeking adventure. In the past, I went in the summer and had a blast, but I’d love to do it this year with the fall foliage. More info and tickets can be found here.

The Alpine Mountain Coaster is perfect for those seeking thrill. You’re in control of your cart and can take in beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.

34. Visit Jenkinson’s Aquarium & Boardwalk
Enjoy family-friendly activities and oceanfront fun. I always loved doing the rides and playing in the arcades growing up!

35. See the Sunset Behind the Waves in New Jersey
Sunset Beach in Cape May is the ultimate spot to catch a breathtaking sunset. It’s one of the few beaches in New Jersey where the sun sets behind the water.

36. Go Blueberry Picking at a Local Farm
Harvest sweet, fresh blueberries straight from the bush. New Jersey has a bunch of local spots offering U-pick blueberries including DiMeo Farms in Hammonton and Happy Day Farm in Manalapan.

37. Try Parasailing in Wildwood
Soar high above the ocean for spectacular views with Atlantic Parasail in Wildwood Crest. They are highly rated and have been in business for over 30 years, having done over 200,000 flights.

38. Seek Thrill at TreEscape Aerial Adventure Park
Take on a thrilling activity this year with TreEscape. This self-guided aerial obstacle course makes for a unique activity with friends and family. The courses range in difficulty and offer a combination of rope walks, obstacles, climbing elements, and zip lines.

39. Catch a Minor League Baseball Game
Enjoy a local baseball game with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws, Somerset Patriots, Trenton Thunder, Sussex County Miners, or the New Jersey Jackals.

40. Spend an afternoon at Beach Plum Farm
Beach Plum Farm in West Cape May, NJ is a must-visit at least once per year. From vibrant hydrangeas in the summer to festive holiday decor in December, this is one of my favorite spots to visit. My favorite months to go are June, July, October, and December.

41. Pick Your Own Flowers at Melick’s Town Farm
Melick’s Town Farm in Oldwick is the perfect spot to spend a summer afternoon. With their U-pick flower experience, you can wander through vibrant fields and pick your favorites—only paying for what you pick, with no entry fee required. They also have a market store on site.

42. Visit the NJ Sunflower Trail at Von Thun Farms
The NJ Sunflower Trail can be found at Von Thun Farms’ Washington location. Plan to visit mid-July to early August. Paid entry is required, and you can also pick the sunflowers along with other blooms to take home for an additional fee. They also offer peach picking!

43. Go Peach & Apple Picking at Melick’s Town Farm
Harvest sweet, juicy peaches in the summer or crisp apples in the fall at Melick’s Town Farm orchards in Califon.

44. Hike the Appalachian Trail Boardwalk (Pochuck Boardwalk)
This easy trail offers unique scenery and a long stretch of boardwalk surrounded by lush greenery. You can tack this onto the Stairway to Heaven hike, which is more challenging. Park in the Stairway to Heaven Parking Lot off Route 94 (limited spaces) or across from Heaven Hill Farm. Hike the boardwalk trail until you at least get to the Suspension Bridge; it’s so cool to see!

45. Pick Lavender at Happy Day Farm
There are many local farms in New Jersey that offer U-pick lavender, including Happy Day Farm in Manalapan. You can combine this activity with raspberry picking, which typically occurs at the same time.

46. Go Strawberry Picking at Battleview Orchards
Late May is a great time of year to go a strawberry picking in New Jersey. I enjoyed doing it at Battleview Orchards last year and would recommend.

47. Enjoy a Loaded Smoothie Bowl from Soul Bowls
Soul Bowls has two locations in New Jersey; one in Metuchen and one in Scotch Plains. They have the BEST smoothie bowls in the state. You can visit the Metuchen location on a nice spring day and walk around the downtown to make an afternoon out of it.

48. Take a Wild Ride at Six Flags Great Adventure
Enjoy roller coasters, wildlife safaris, and seasonal events. Six Flags is anticipated to reopen this spring. If you plan on visiting the park more than once this year, it is worth it to get a season pass.

49. Enjoy a Hike at Cheesequake State Park
Cheesequake State Park is home to numerous easy hiking trails. It’s a local favorite for those in Middlesex and Monmouth Counties.

50. Go Back in Time at Sandy Hook
Take a tour of the oldest operating lighthouse in America and see the abandoned yellow-brick buildings at Fort Hancock. Visitors can also enjoy miles of walking/biking trails here, along with the beaches. I personally recommend visiting in the non-peak season to avoid parking fees and crowds.

51. Spend a Day in Princeton
Explore the University campus, go shopping in the downtown, and enjoy a nice meal at one of Princeton’s eateries. If you’re looking for a nice dinner, try Agricola Eatery. More casual? Check out Tacoria or get ice cream at The Bent Spoon.

52. See the Sunflower & Zinnia Fields at Happy Day Farm
Wander through bright, cheerful flowers in the summer and early fall. U-pick is also available if you want to take some home. Info can be found here. Zinnias are usually available for picking in the summer, while sunflowers are available in the summer and fall.

56. Attend the Chatsworth Cranberry Festival
Celebrate New Jersey’s cranberry harvest with food and vendors.

Find the perfect pumpkin while enjoying hayrides and Halloween festivities. This farm is also near the Stairway to Heaven & Appalachian Boardwalk Trail, if you want to combine the activities in the same day.

58. Go Apple Picking at Riamede Farm

59. Attend the Fall Festival at Happy Day Farm
Celebrate autumn with corn mazes, pumpkin patches, and seasonal treats. The photo-ops are also fantastic!

60. Hike High Point State Park’s Monument Loop Trail
Take in stunning views at the highest point in NJ. I recommend going during the peak fall season to take in the vibrant foliage, but it’s also beautiful during other seasons.

61. Tour the Red Mill Museum Village & Downtown Clinton
Experience a Ghost Tour in October, or more casual history tour in the summer. While there is an admission fee to walk around the village, you can get some nice views of the famous Red Mill for free from the town.

62. Explore Waterloo Village Historic Site
Take in history and vibrant fall colors at this restored village. I recommend visiting in summer or fall. It’s free to wander the grounds!

Holland Ridge Farms offers the largest U-pick sunflower field in the state. The festival is typically offered in the early fall season, and also features photo-ops, food trucks, and other varieties of flowers for picking.

Lokal not only offers a beautiful boutique hotel/apartments in Cape May, but also a stunning A-frame cabin in the woods of Cumberland County. This area is quite remote, but so peaceful. I recommended visiting in the fall with a group of friends.

This free public garden is absolutely stunning in the spring and summer with the colorful flowers in bloom. It’s open year-round, but I recommend visiting between April and August.

92. Enjoy a Fall Hike at Norvin Green State Forest
Take a scenic hike at Norvin Green State Forest in Passaic County. Park at the Norvin Green State Forest Otter Hole Parking Lot and hike the “Chikahoki Falls via Highlands, Post Brook, and Carris Hill Trail” on All Trails. There are other trails here worth exploring as well!

93. Take a Hayride at Secor Farms in Mahwah
A visit to Secor Farms in Mahwah is perfect for those looking for a family-friendly activity in October. Go pumpkin picking, traverse the corn mazes, and check out the market store.

94. Go Pumpkin & Apple Picking at Battleview Orchards
The perfect fall activities, and you can do both at the same spot! Don’t forget to check out their market store up the road from the Orchard for apple cider doughnuts.

Lucy the Elephant is a 6-story National Historic Landmark nestled in Margate City, NJ.

Indulging in the diverse and delectable food scene of New Jersey is a delight that never ceases to amaze me. From charming local eateries to upscale dining destinations, this state is an incredible place for food enthusiasts! In this blog post, I share six of my favorite restaurants across New Jersey, each offering a unique blend of flavors and ambiance that will leave you craving more. There are so many spectacular eateries in New Jersey, and I do plan to share more of my favorites over time! I am always on the hunt for new spots to add to my favorites list, so feel free to comment below your best New Jersey restaurant recommendations!

1. The Pasta Shop (Denville, NJ)

Address: 13 1st Ave, Denville, NJ 07834

Type: Dinner spot – Closed on Sundays & Mondays – Open for lunch on Saturdays only

The Pasta Shop is located in the quaint town of Denville, which lies within Morris County, NJ. They have delicious handmade pasta, the service is always superb, and every time I have eaten here, the experience has been a 10/10! The main dishes typically cost $16-$20 each. This is a small restaurant that does NOT take reservations currently. I recommend showing up early and/or on a weekday if you want to dine in. They also do takeout and there are some picnic tables right by the restaurant! One of my first-ever blog posts shares my review of The Pasta Shop!

2. Lotería (Asbury Park, NJ)

Address: 632 Mattison Ave, Asbury Park, NJ 07712

Type: Dinner spot that also serves lunch on weekends

Lotería is a casual Mexican restaurant located in the heart of downtown Asbury Park, just a roughly 15-minute walk from the beach. They serve delicious food including decadent queso, savory burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and so much more! My favorite things to order are the burrito with chicken, the queso, and the nachos! Entrées typically cost $10-$17 each. They do NOT take reservations at this time! Lotería is a hip eatery with a festive ambiance and is perfect for a dinner with friends or a date night. I recommend visiting if you are in the Eastern Monmouth County area!

3. Talula’s (Asbury Park, NJ)

Address: 550 Cookman Ave #108, Asbury Park, NJ 07712

Type: breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, dessert, cocktails/bar (check current hours on Google)

Another favorite spot in Asbury Park is Talula’s! This is an excellent farm-to-table restaurant located on Cookman Ave, the main street in the downtown. Talula’s specializes in sourdough pizza and it’s insanely delicious and fluffy. The entrées & pizzas typically cost $15-$20+ each. They DO take reservations and I highly recommend making one if you plan to visit on a weekend!

4. S. Egidio (Ridgewood, NJ)

Address: 17 N Broad St, Ridgewood, NJ 07450

Type: Dinner spot – Closed on Mondays – Open for lunch on weekends

S. Egidio Pizze Salumi Espresso is an intimate Italian restaurant nestled in downtown Ridgewood. They have some of my FAVORITE pizza in New Jersey as I’m a huge fan of Neapolitan style! They DO accept a limited amount of reservations, or you can walk in and potentially have to wait for a table. The pizzas typically cost $10-$22 each and the handmade pasta dishes are $20-$25 each. My absolute favorite pizza here is the “Drunken. S.B. or D.S.B.” which consists of their fluffy Neapolitan crust, vodka sauce, smoked mozzarella, and meatballs. Everything truly tastes delicious and the experience is always superb at S. Egidio!

5. George’s Place (Cape May County, NJ)

Locations: 301 Beach Ave, Cape May, NJ 08204; 315 Ocean St, Cape May, NJ 08204; 6200 Park Blvd, Wildwood Crest, NJ 08260; and 104 N Main St, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210

Type: Great spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (check Google for the hours and menu by location)

George’s Place has three locations across Cape May County including two in Cape May (their main one being on Beach Ave), one in Wildwood Crest, and one in Cape May Court House. This is a great Mediterranean spot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and they serve Greek and American cuisine. Breakfast & lunch entrées typically cost $10-$15 each while dinner entrées are typically $25-$30+ each. They are also a BYOB restaurant! Please note that their Cape May & Wildwood Crest locations are CASH ONLY, and their Cape May Court House location accepts cash & card. George’s Place offers a wonderful and casual dining experience in some awesome beach towns!

6. Jose Tejas (Multiple Locations)

Locations: 700 US-1, Iselin, NJ 08830; 647 US-46, Fairfield, NJ 07004; and 1310 NJ-73, Mt Laurel Township, NJ 08054

Type: Dinner spot – closed on Mondays – is also open for lunch on weekends

Jose Tejas has a few locations within New Jersey including one in Iselin, Fairfield, and Mt. Laurel. I have been to their Iselin and Fairfield locations numerous times and they never disappoint. Jose Tejas is a very casual and lively Tex-Mex restaurant with excellent prices and delicious food. The entrées typically cost $10-$15 each. Please note that they do NOT take reservations and there tends to be a wait on weekends! I recommend the Camptown Shrimp and Guacamole as a starter, and the chicken enchiladas as an entrée. Their traditional and frozen margaritas are also quite popular!

New Jersey is known for its amazing pizza scene for a good reason. With a plethora of pizzerias to choose from, it can be hard to decide which ones to try. As a local, I’ve had a good amount of pizza in the Garden State and have decided to share some of my personal favorites, plus some popular spots that are on my bucket list to visit! Here are 10 pizza places in New Jersey to try in 2023, in no particular order!

1. Vic’s in Bradley Beach

Address: 60 Main St, Bradley Beach, NJ 07720

Vic’s Italian Restaurant in Bradley Beach has been a personal favorite of my family for years! This family-owned pizzeria has been serving up delicious thin-crust pizza since 1947, and it truly never gets old. The sauce is made from scratch and the toppings are always fresh.

2. Talula’s in Asbury Park

Talula’s wood-fired pizza is a must-try!!! The crust is crispy and chewy, and the toppings are unique and flavorful. Talula’s is one of my favorite pizza spots in Monmouth County, and I love how they are always adding seasonal specials to their menu. Talula’s even offers vegan pizza options if that interests you! If you are in Asbury Park, I highly recommend checking out Talula’s on Cookman Ave!

3. Apulia in Hoboken

Address: 1319 Washington St, Hoboken, NJ 07030

Apulia in Hoboken is a recent find of mine and boy am I glad I tried this spot! This authentic Neapolitan pizzeria uses imported ingredients from Italy to make its pizza. The crust is light and airy, and the toppings are fresh and delicious. In addition to having amazing pizza, their homemade pasta is also incredible as well as their quaint ambiance!

4. Razza in Jersey City

Address: 275/277 Grove St, Jersey City, NJ 07302

Razza’s pizza looks like a work of art. The dough is fermented for at least 48 hours, giving it a complex flavor, and the toppings are sourced from local farms. Razza has been on my pizza bucket list for a while now, and I definitely want to give it a try in 2023!

5. Star Tavern in Orange

Address: 400 High St, City of Orange, NJ 07050

This legendary pizzeria has been around since 1945 and is known for its super thin-crust bar pies. I haven’t tried Star Tavern yet, but I hear that the sauce is sweet and the cheese is perfectly melted. Star Tavern is a local favorite with its nearly 3,000 Google reviews and 4.5-out-of-5-star rating.

Porta is a popular eatery known for its delicious wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizzas. The restaurant has a cozy and vibrant atmosphere and offers three locations in New Jersey. I’ve personally been to the Asbury Park and Jersey City locations and they’ve never disappointed! In addition to pizza, Porta also serves a variety of Italian-inspired dishes, along with a decent selection of beers, wines, and cocktails. The restaurant is a great spot for a casual meal or a night out on the town.

7. De Lorenzo’s Tomato Pies in Robbinsville

De Lorenzo’s pizza is made with a unique, tomato-based sauce and is cooked in a coal-fired oven. The crust is crispy and the toppings are always fresh. De Lorenzo’s is a local favorite in Robbinsville for those seeking a tasty tomato pie, and it’s on my radar of NJ pizza spots to try.

S. Egidio is a quaint, Italian-style restaurant located in Ridgewood, New Jersey. The restaurant specializes in traditional Neapolitan-style pizza, cured meats, fresh pasta, and espresso-based drinks. Moreover, the small restaurant has a rustic, cozy atmosphere, and is a popular spot for both dine-in and takeout orders. S. Egidio is known for its high-quality ingredients and pizza, and is a personal favorite of mine!

9. Tacconelli’s Pizzeria (Multiple Locations)

Tacconelli’s Pizza is a spot I have not tried yet, but is well known in the South Jersey/Philly area! The family-owned pizzeria has two locations in New Jersey; one in Maple Shade and one in Haddonfield. Tacconelli’s is known for its fresh ingredients and thin-crust pizza that has just the right amount of chewiness. This small and cozy joint is worth a try if you are in the South Jersey/Philly area, and it’s been added to my NJ pizza bucket list!

10. Song E Napule in Rutherford

Song E Napule is a highly-rated Neapolitan-style pizzeria with two locations in NYC and one in Rutherford, NJ. Their pizza is known for being authentic and delicious, with a crispy crust and high-quality toppings. They use traditional ingredients imported from Italy, including San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella di bufala, and extra virgin olive oil. Overall, if you’re a pizza lover in the Rutherford area, Song E Napule is definitely worth checking out for its delicious and authentic Neapolitan-style pizza! I hope to visit here in 2023 as I am a sucker for an authentic Neapolitan-style pizza!

Spring is right around the corner, and with the warmer February days we’ve been having, it feels like it is already here! New Jersey is a beautiful spot to be during the spring season. As the months get warmer and flowers start to bloom, this is a great time to take on those weekend trips or outdoor excursions you’ve been thinking about all winter. 1. Visit One Of NJ’s Beautiful Flower Fields

Starting around April, many local farms host their annual flower festivals. Frolick through New Jersey’s most beautiful flower fields this spring such as the country’s largest tulip festival at Holland Ridge Farms in Cream Ridge. Their U-pick tulips typically reopens mid-April, but keep an eye on their website for the official announcement. 2. Enjoy The Outdoors With A Hike

NJ’s northern beaches, such as those in Monmouth County, tend to be fully operating year-round regarding shops and restaurants.

4. Explore Sandy Hook

Speaking of Monmouth County beaches, Sandy Hook is a historic gem worth a visit even in the Spring! Visitors and locals can drive, walk, run, and bike through this scenic coastal peninsula, making it great for an outdoorsy day.

5. Spend A Few Days In Cape May

Cape May is the BEST beach town in New Jersey! Be transported into a Victorian era as you wander through the town. The Washington Street Mall and Congress Hall are just two of the many exciting things to see in Cape May. 7. Seek Thrill At Six Flags Great Adventure

Six Flags Great Adventure reopens April 1 – April 16 for spring break. Experience the thrill of Kingda Ka, or the world’s fastest, tallest, and longest single rail coaster: Jersey Devil Coaster.

8. Check Out NJ’s Stunning Arboretums

A variety of beautiful arboretums are scattered around New Jersey. If you are seeking a peaceful, outdoorsy vibe, then pay a visit to a local arboretum! Some North-Jersey favorites include the: Thielke Arboretum (Glen Rock), Reeves-Reed Arboretum (Summit), Frelinghuysen Arboretum (Morristown), and Willowwood Arboretum (Far Hills). I recommend visiting in May or June for the best blooms!

9. Enjoy A Peaceful Stroll Through A Garden

In addition to many beautiful Arboretums, New Jersey also has a ton of aesthetic gardens that start to become vibrant in late spring! Deep Cut Gardens in Middletown is a floral oasis, as well as Cross Estate Gardens inBernardsville, and many more!

Many arboretums, gardens, and farms in New Jersey host fun events in the spring season. One family-friendly event worth checking out is Daffodil Day at the Reeves-Reed Arboretum in Summit. Enjoy many festive activities to get into the Spring spirit!

13. Pick Your Own Fruit At A Local Farm

16. Try A Delicious Pizza Spot

It’s no secret that New Jersey is home to some of the BEST pizza in the country! While New Jersey is famously known for it’s crispier, thin-crust pies, we are also home to many neapolitan-style pizza spots. I’m personally a huge fan of italian-style pizza with it’s bubbly crust, and bar-pie-sized slices. Some of my favorite pizza spots in New Jersey are: Talula’s (Asbury Park), S.Egidio (Ridgewood), Vic’s (Bradley Beach), and Porta (Asbury Park & Jersey City). 17. See Animals At A Local Farm

Delight yourself with fresh air and a trip to a local farm to see some adorable animals this spring! Holland Ridge Farms in Cream Ridge reopens in April, and typically has alpacas and other farm animals on the property to see. Alstede Farms in Chester is another local farm with a variety of spring farm tours offered.

18. Take In The Cherry Blossoms At Branch Brook Park

Branch Brook Park is famously known for it’s annual Essex County Cherry Blossoms Festival. Branch Brook Park, which is located within Belleville and Newark, features over 5,000 cherry blossom trees that bloom in April. The annual festival takes place between April 1st and April 16th, 2023, and the park is free to stroll through.

19. Enjoy a local baseball game

Baseball season kicks off in spring, and New Jersey is home to a few minor-league teams. Support a local team and enjoy a more budget-friendly sporting event with friends and/or family!

23. Enjoy A Day In Coastal Asbury Park & Ocean Grove

I know I mentioned in a previous idea to take a stroll on some of New Jersey’s boardwalks, but Asbury Park and Ocean Grove deserve their own point! As a Monmouth County native, I’ve grown to admire the culture and beauty of Asbury Park and Ocean Grove Beach. Stroll along Cookman Ave in Asbury and try out some of their incredible eateries such as: Talula’s (pizza), Cookman Creamery (ice cream), MOGO Korean Fushion Tacos, and more. There are also plenty of local shops within the main streets of Asbury and Oean Grove. Enjoy a long walk along the Jersey Shore as you can easily cross between the two towns. Also, right on the Asbury Park boardwalk lies the Silverball Retro Arcade, which houses numerous classics you can play. Additionally, see historic landmarks including The Stone Pony and Wonder Bar while in the area. Overall, visitors and locals can definitely enjoy an entire day in Asbury Park and Ocean Grove!

24. Get Ice Cream At Nicholas Creamery in Monmouth County

I may be a little biased, as a Monmouth County native, but Nicholas Creamery serves some of the BEST ice cream in New Jersey! This local creamery slings small-batch, homemade scoops, while offering a variety of ecclectic flavors and an ever-chaning specials menu. Their hot fudge is a MUST for all chocolate-lovers as it’s incredibly decadent and rich. Nicholas Creamery currently has four locations throughout Monmouth County: Tinton Falls, Long Branch, Fair Haven, and the Atlantic Highlands.

25. Visit New Jersey’s Best Instagrammable Photo Spots

Things To Do In New Jersey This November 2022

November is that transitional month that takes us from all the fall vibes to the winter ones. The weather can vary significantly in New Jersey during November, whether it be 65 and sunny, or 40 and crisp. New Jersey hosts a lot of great events during the month of November, and is also a great time to get outdoors before the winter cold comes in! If you are looking for fun activities to do in New Jersey this November, then keep on reading to find out what’s going on in the garden state this month!

1. Jersey Shore Restaurant Week

Dates: November 4-13, 2022 (6:30pm-9:30pm)

Looking for a foodie-focused event in New Jersey? On Thursday, November 3rd kicks off the annual Jersey Shore Restaurant Week. One of the specific events hosted by them is The Dream Dinner, and this year, local eateries are coming together to chef up a 5-course meal inspired by iconic dishes from famous NYC restaurants. More information on this event can be found here and tickets are $89 per person. Unfortunately, since this event is being held tomorrow, as I am posting this article, the tickets can no longer be purchased online. While it looks like tickets may be sold out at at this point for The Dream Dinner, there are plenty of things going on during this week with local eateries! During Jersey Shore Restaurant Week, participating restaurants offer a select pre-fix menu that customers can enjoy for either $30.22/pp or $40.22/pp. Check out their website for more info on specific events, and their instagram for up-to-date news on participating restaurants.

2. New Jersey Vegan Food Festival 2022

Dates: Saturday & Sunday, November 12-13, 2022 (11am-5pm)

Where: Meadowlands Exposition Center, 355 Plaza Drive, Secaucus, NJ 07094

Calling all vegans and vegan food-lovers (and those curious to try it)! Another foodie event coming up is the New Jersey Vegan Food Festival. This event takes place at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Seacaucus, and includes delicious vegan bites from local chefs, bakers and creators! Tickets can be purchased here, and cost $20 per person (+ fees and tax) for a one-day pass, or $30 per person (+ fees and tax) for a two-day pass. Children 13 and under can attend for free! Over 90 vendors are attending this festival and you are sure to find some tasty eats here!

3. Visit A Local Brewery, Winery, or Distillery

7. Riamede Farm’s Christmas At The Farm Holiday Market

Date: Saturday, November 12, 2022

Market/Vendors: (11am-3pm) & Barn Dance (5:30-8:30pm)

Where: 122 Oakdale Rd, Chester, NJ 07930

Riamede Farm in Chester, NJ is hosting their second annual Christmas at the Farm Holiday Market on November 12th. This free event takes places between 11am and 3pm, and will feature over 25 local vendors plus tasty food offerings including a pie tasting! Get into the holiday spirit at Riamede Farm this November and support local New Jersey businesses! Vendor offerings will include baked goods and other foods, knits and blankets, home decor, artwork, sustainable living goods, pottery/ceramics, jewelry, florals, paper crafts, pet goods, bath & body products, kids’ items, and more! For those interested in apple picking and a hayride, you can stroll through Riamede’s orchards for a separate entrance fee of $5 per person. To top off the day, Riamede Farm will be hosting a family-friendly barn dance in their vintage barn. This BYOB event takes places from 5:30pm-8:30pm, and will feature professional square dance caller Ed LaPlante. Food offerings will be provided by Summer Daze food truck. Tickets are $15 per person (required for those ages 6+) and are available for purchase here.

8. Winter Wonderland Events At Congress Hall

The magic returns to Congress Hall starting November 25, 2022! Cape May is one of my absolute favorite spots, and one of the best beach towns in New Jersey to visit this summer 2022. All the way down at exit zero lies this quaint, family-oriented beach town with lots of restaurants/eateries, shops, and coastal vibes. Cape May is a top recommended vacation spot at the bottom of the state that is definitely worth checking out for a few days (or longer). 1. Aloha Smoothie Company

Aloha Smoothie Company is right off of Beach Ave. on Gurney St. They serve up fresh and tasty smoothie bowls & smoothies in the $10-$20 range depending on the size you get. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, plus a quick, casual breakfast/lunch! Be sure to check google for the current hours.

2. Playa Bowls

Playa Bowls is a New Jersey classic, and I am thrilled they have one here in Cape May. Playa Bowls is always a reliable smoothie bowl spot for when you’re craving something quick and refreshing! My go-to order is the Nica Bowl with the base of the Booster Bowl. They offer a very wide selection of smoothies, smoothie bowls and juices, and bowls are in the $10-13 range.

3. The Mad Batter

Address: 19 Jackson St, Cape May, NJ 08204

My boyfriend and I decided to do breakfast at The Mad Batter which is located at the Carroll Villa Hotel. The food is delicious here and we enjoyed everything we ate. We ordered the Chesapeake Bay egg’s benedict with fresh lump crab, the oatmeal pancakes with blueberries and a side of real maple syrup, and an omelet. This restaurant is within a few minutes walk of Congress Hall, The Washington Street Mall, and the beach. Our waiter was friendly, although due to the crowdedness of this spot, the food may take a little longer to come. There tends to be a wait time, so I recommend factoring that in when you visit.

4. Beach Plum Farm

Address: 140 Stevens St, West Cape May, NJ 08204

The Beach Plum Farm is about a 10 minute drive from Cape May beach and is one of the cutest photo spots in the area! The atmosphere and vibe of this farm is a solid 5/5 and is perfect for that rustic farm/garden aesthetic. They offer a small breakfast/lunch menu, and I recommend the egg sandwich on a brioche roll ($15). My boyfriend ordered the frittata ($15) and personally did not like this dish, but other than this, their food is usually pretty yummy. The pulled pork sandwiches looked thick and mouth-watering at the table next to us! The food here is a bit pricy, but you are given free access to explore the farm grounds including their chickens, many gardens, and market store. Even if you didn’t want to eat here, I still highly recommend coming the Beach Plum Farm at least for the environment and to get some photos!

5. George’s Place

George’s Place now has two locations in Cape May; one on Beach Ave. and one in the Washington Street Mall. I have only dined at the Beach Ave. location, and the food is always consistent here. Everything I’ve had is delicious and this is one of my go-to casual eateries in Cape May. They service is welcoming and attentive, and the interior feels like a small scale, old-fashioned diner. They offer American and Greek fare, and are reasonably priced. Check out their full menu and hours here.

6. Viggiano’s on Sunset

Viggiano’s on Sunset is a cozy Italian-American restaurant that offers a wide selection of pasta and meat dishes, plus more. They offer indoor and outdoor dining, and reservations are accepted. Their prices are reasonable, especially considering it is a BYOB. They offer single portions of pastas and entrees for roughly $15-$22, or family-style portions (feeds 2-4 people) for roughly $30-$40+. We ordered the asparagus, lasagna and gnocchi with baby meatballs, and all are delicious! The staff are very inviting and give a warm welcome to guests dining at their restaurant. Viggiano’s is a great date night spot in Cape May, and you can dress up or dress casual, it’s really up to you.

7. Mayer’s Tavern

Mayer’s Tavern is a local bar and restaurant serving local seafood, handcrafted cocktails, and more. They tend to have live music, and offer both indoor and outdoor dining. This restaurant is very casual, and they are most known for their fried scallops dish, amongst other seafood options. The menu is small, and the options are each prepared with a unique touch. The crab fritters are delicious, and they whip up a pretty massive kale salad. This is a nice spot if you are looking for a casual vibe with entertainment, local seafood, and drinks.

8. Taco Caballito

Address: 429 Beach Ave, Cape May, NJ 08204

Taco Caballito is a Mexican restaurant and tequileria with a beautiful bar and ambience. This ocean-front restaurant is relatively new to Cape May. They opened in 2019, taking over the building that used to be home to Cabanas Beach Bar. Their menu is large and offers starters such as guacamole, pico de gallo, queso, nachos etc… Entrees include burritos, burrito bowls ($16-$19), tacos ($10-$20), and more. The service is very attentive and friendly. Although the chicken tinga burrito/burrito bowl we ordered did not stand out as anything extraordinary, it still tasted good. I think this spot is worth checking out, and is a hip restaurant/bar with an aesthetic interior and casual bites.

9. Fine Fellows Creamery

I can’t write a blog post about Cape May eateries without including a few dessert spots! Cape May has many chain ice cream shops like Kohr Bros, Dairy Queen, and Ben & Jerry’s, but a local spot is always the best! Fine Fellows is a town favorite and serves up delicious scoops of Bassett’s ice cream. The interior is fun and colorful, and the staff are always nice. Like most seasonal Jersey Shore ice cream shops, the prices are a little high, but it’s so worth it for a delicious treat! They offer classic cups/cones, decadent sundaes, shakes, and lots of extra toppings.

10. Cape May Peanut Butter Co.

Address: 516 Carpenters Ln, Cape May, NJ 08204

I can’t go to Cape May without stopping at the Cape May Peanut Butter Co. in the Washington Street Mall. It’s not a sit down eatery by any means, but more of a retail shop/bakery. If you love peanut butter, then this is the perfect shop for you! They sell many varieties of freshly made peanut butter and peanut buttery treats. You can buy jars of traditional and flavored peanut butter or powdered peanut butter, bags of candies, jellies and more. I also recommend grabbing a few of their handmade cookies/treats at the bakery counter before heading out. Their large peanut butter cookie with a peanut butter cup in the center is my fav! The people working here are always so nice too!

Check Out This Top New Jersey Pizza Spot in Asbury Park: Talula’s

While I may be a fellow New Jerseyan and have access to Jersey or New York-style pizza, I personally prefer a traditional Italian-style pizza! The chewy and fluffy crust of a Neapolitan-style pizza and the freshness of the ingredients really draw me in. After studying abroad in Italy and enjoying many rustic pizzas, I knew I needed to find that style of pizza here in NJ! Talula’s Pizza in Asbury Park is a unique, local eatery that creates incredible wood-fired pies right here at the shore!

Talula’s Pizza: A Must-Try in Monmouth County

I’ve been dining at Talula’s for 6+ years now, and I look forward to many more years of eating here! They have an impressive brunch/lunch menu in addition to dinner! Talula’s pizza is made with sourdough and fired up in a wood-burning oven to perfection. The light and fluffy dough is used to create a plethora of 12″ red or white pies. They offer classic options such as the “Margie” which is crafted with their homemade 4-hour tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, olive oil, basil, and sea salt. Their seasonal pie, “My Little Roni”, is topped with their 4-hour tomato sauce, asiago, mascarpone, pepperoni, pickled long hots, garlic, and pecorino!

Fresh Ingredients

Everything at Talula’s is made from scratch in-house, and a lot of their ingredients are locally sourced. Talula’s pickles, ferments, makes, and bakes everything in-house including many of their cheeses, dairy-free cheeses, and ice cream! It’s truly a gem of a restaurant and you can tell how fresh the dishes are here!

Menu Options For Different Diets

Talula’s offers options for vegans, vegetarians, omnivores, etc… They make their own dairy-free cheeses and vegan “meats” including cashew ricotta, vegan sausage, vegan pepperoni, and more. As an omnivore, I love their authentic ricotta and traditional meat toppings, but the vegan ones are also delicious! If you are a cheese lover like me, I highly recommend ordering the ricotta toast as an appetizer. It’s the ultimate comfort food!

My Menu Favorites

Talula’s has an ever-changing menu that switches up with the seasons! They do have a few classic pies, such as the Margie, that always make the menu. The fresh ricotta toast($9) makes for a wonderful starter, as well as the delicious hummus with focaccia ($9). Starters also currently include house-baked bread and butter($6), creamed leak toast($14), hearty salads($13-$15), and more. Talula’s offers different starters with the seasons as well. While I love the pizza here, I did recently order the cacio e pepe entree ($17) made with hand-cut ramen, and loved it! My boyfriend has been enjoying the meatball entree ($15) lately which comes with garlic toast and fresh ricotta.

My sister loves their “Rocket” white pie which is made with house mozzarella, ricotta, garlic, cream, arugula, lemon, Aleppo, and aged gouda($19). Their current eclectic menu also includes some unique options that I have not tried yet such as their vegan crab cakes made with hearts of palm and chickpeas($18), fermented chili carbonara($18), and more. They also have a nice selection of house-made desserts. From panna cotta($10) to affogato ($8), to the “Cookie Smash”($10) which comes with handmade cookies, ice cream, caramel, and fudge. Where To Grab A Quick Lunch in Highlands, NJ: Bay Ave Bakery & Cafe

This afternoon my friend and I decided to take a leisurely hike at Hartshorne Woods Park in Highlands, NJ. Before we made our way to the trails, we wanted to fuel up with a bite to eat. We came across Bay Ave Bakery & Cafe which is only a five minute drive from the park.

LOCATION

Bay Ave Bakery & Cafe is located at 111 Bay Ave, Highlands, NJ. Their current hours of operation as of October 2021 are seven days a week, 6:30am to 6pm.

ABOUT THE CAFE

Currently, Bay Ave Cafe is only offering take-out, and no dine-in services. They have a few picnic tables set up outside which is perfect. This was our first time dining here, and it did not disappoint. The cafe is small, but as soon as you walk in you see the cooks cheffing it up in the kitchen, as well as an array of fresh baked goods. They sell homemade cupcakes, cheesecakes, cookies, bagels and more in the bakery portion of this establishment.

THE FOOD

We of course couldn’t pass up a fresh baked treat, so we each made sure to get a cupcake to enjoy as our after lunch dessert. Remembering we went there for lunch food and not just dessert, we checked out the main menu. Bay Ave Cafe offers classics such as a grilled chicken sandwich, grilled cheese, chicken parmesan sub, salads, homemade french fries, omelettes, and many other breakfast/lunch options.

I ordered a grilled cheese on a handmade everything bagel with ham, which costs $6.50, and my friend ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, which costs $9.75. The grilled cheese was immaculate on a bagel (basically a breakfast sandwich but tasted even better). Both of our sandwiches were served with potato chips and a large pickle. My friend loved her grilled chicken sandwich, and the portion was pretty big (looked like a 10 inch sub roll). The grilled chicken sandwich was juicy and topped with fresh peppers, onions and cheese.

After we ate our sandwiches on the cute picnic tables outside the restaurant, we dug into our cupcakes. It was a tough choice to pick which dessert I wanted since they have so many fresh baked options. I was torn between the mini New York Cheesecake ($4) and the chocolate-coconut-marshmallow cupcake ($2.25), but I went with the cupcake. The cupcake was very moist and fluffy, and the marshmallow icing with coconut flakes on top really made it even better. My friend got a huge chocolate-peanut butter stuffed cupcake (about $5.50) and was in love. This looked incredible, and she said the flavor was impeccable! I definitely recommend coming here for both breakfast or lunch fare, and dessert!

OVERALL THOUGHTS

This local Jersey eatery offers delicious breakfast and lunch food, handmade bagels, and a plethora a fresh baked goods. The service is friendly and welcoming. While the joint is small, they do not fail to offer a great variety of menu options at a generally reasonable price. We appreciated the outdoor picnic tables as they were only offering take-out when we visited. The inside of the eatery feels like your classic Jersey cafe: a little tight on space, locals conversing anticipating their food, and the slight smell of meats sizzlin’ on the griddle. I would definitely eat here again when I am in the Highlands area in need of a quick option where taste isn’t ignored!

Locations in New Jersey

Jose Tejas has two locations in New Jersey. One restaurant is in Iselin, Middlesex County, NJ, and the other is in Fairfield, Essex County, NJ. I have been to both locations numerous times. The food is consistently delicious and the service never fails to be friendly and quick. Both restaurants tend to have a wait on a Friday or Saturday night, and they do not take reservations. I recommend showing up a little earlier so that you can eat closer to the time you prefer to. This restaurant is so good though, that it is worth the wait!

I first dined at Jose Tejas back in 2017 and have been a regular customer ever since. This restaurant is one of my go-to spots for dinner with friends, on a date-night with my boyfriend, or with family. The vivacious ambience and decor, quick and friendly service, mouth-watering dishes, and very affordable prices are why I love this restaurant!

Appetizers

Almost every time I dine at Jose Tejas, I order the fresh guacamole appetizer. They also give every table a complimentary basket of chips and salsa when you dine in. The chips are thin and crispy and the salsa has the perfect kick. I usually have some chips with the salsa, and some with the guac. Sometimes if we are craving an extra starter, we will get the camptown shrimp appetizer. This cajun-inspired dish has incredible flavor! The dish is made up of shrimp and french bread smothered in a spicy brown gravy, cooked with Negro Modelo beer. If you are more of a chicken person over seafood, I highly recommend the pastelitos. These are fried flaky pastries filled with shredded chicken and served with chimi verde sauce on the side. I also recommend dipping the pastelitos in guac.

The dish comes with two corn tortillas stuffed with marinated chicken, and baked in cheese and homemade enchilada sauce. This dish comes with one of a few side options: black beans with Jose’s rice, jambalaya, or white rice. I always get the beans with Jose’s rice which are chef’s kiss! I also always order this dish with a small side of guac and sour cream. Another great dish is the chicken quesadilla, which is my boyfriend’s go-to order. I have never had a quesadilla with more cheese than this (they really load it up)! The quesadilla is served with lettuce and sour cream, but I recommend paying for the small side of guac too. They used to have a shrimp and crawfish quesadilla on their menu, but have not had it since last year (we are hoping they bring this dish back)! You just can’t beat the quesadillas or enchiladas here as they are all only around $10-$12 for a very sizable portion.

Overall Thoughts

Jose Tejas serves up a plethora of Mexican and Cajun comfort dishes including fajitas, huge salads, burros, enchiladas, quesadillas, blackened salmon tacos, empanadas, jambalaya and more. The bustling atmosphere tends to be loud and vivacious, and the restaurant accommodates many tables. I love how affordable the prices are here as entrees are between $10 and $18, and very sizable (or even shareable) portions. The service never disappoints, and our food always tends to come pretty quick. If you have not dined at Jose Tejas yet, I highly recommend checking it out! This just may be the best Tex-Mex restaurant in New Jersey!

The Best Italian Restaurant in North Jersey: The Pasta Shop in Denville

Located in the quaint downtown of Denville, NJ, The Pasta Shop has become a new favorite NJ restaurant of mine. The Pasta Shop does not fall short of exceptional as it offers fresh, handmade pasta and sauces, plus friendly service/staff. I have dined here twice and look forward to regularly returning with my boyfriend to dig in to some amazing comfort dishes! The Pasta Shop may just be the best Italian restaurant in Morris County, if not North Jersey entirely! The small, neighborhood-friendly eatery offers authentic handmade dishes at a reasonable price (average $14-$18 per entree).

Appetizers/Starters

The Pasta Shop is one of those restaurants where you want to order a starter. Their mouth-watering appetizers include options like fresh mozzarella sticks, cheesy garlic bread, stuffed clams, handmade meatballs with fresh tomato sauce, burrata mozzarella and more. We went with the meatballs and burrata during our visits here, and both did NOT disappoint! Their wood-oven meatballs melt in your mouth as they are cooked in a flavorful red sauce, topped with a heaping sprinkle of romano cheese and fresh basil. The burrata mozzarella was a lighter start to our dining experience as it was served over a large bed of balsamic glazed baby tomatoes and sorrel, plus paired with a few slices of bread. I look forward to trying more of their antipasti as I continue to frequent here, and love how they are always switching up and adding new selections to the menu!

Entrees

During our first visit to The Pasta Shop, we ordered the handmade ravioli in red sauce, and the spicy baby shrimp entrees as our main course and both had insane flavor. I’ve had quite a bit of Italian food in my life, but these dishes, especially the ravioli, really stood out to me as some of the best I have ever had!

The second time we dined here, I ordered the pappardelle bolognese which is a classic dish on their main menu. The pasta was thick and cooked to perfection, and paired with a beef and pork ragu, basil and a dash of fresh pecorino cheese. The meat was tender and cooked perfectly, and I really enjoyed this dish. My boyfriend ordered the daily special which was an incredible pumpkin gnocchi in a creamy parmesan sauce topped with roasted kale. We both love this dish and how the restaurant is always switching up their specials with the seasons.

Overall Thoughts

Overall, I highly suggest following The Pasta Shop on instagram to keep up with their daily specials and to see what they are cooking up. The service is incredible and staff is very welcoming. The ambience is quaint and set in the cozy downtown of Denville. They do not have many tables here, so prepare to wait if it is a busy weekend night. The restaurant was only offering outdoor dining during our visits, and they also do takeout. I recommend trying The Pasta Shop if you are looking for some incredible handmade dishes. They just may be the best Italian restaurant in North Jersey!
