If you’re planning a visit to this idyllic town, allow me to guide you through the perfect afternoon, filled with delightful sights, delicious food, and memorable experiences! P.S. Woodstock is one of the most visited towns during the peak fall season!

11 AM to 1 PM: Visit Billings Farm and Museum

Begin your day with a visit to Billings Farm and Museum, a cherished local treasure. Nestled on roughly 270 acres of rolling Vermont countryside, this living history museum provides a captivating look into the state’s rural heritage.

As you stroll through the farm’s well-maintained barns and pastures, you’ll encounter a variety of farm animals. Visitors can see friendly goats, cows, chickens, horses, and more. Engage in interactive exhibits that educate visitors about the history of Vermont’s farming traditions, sustainable agriculture, and dairy production.

The Billings Farmhouse Museum offers a glimpse into the life of a 19th-century farming family, complete with informative displays. Don’t forget to explore the beautifully landscaped gardens, which burst into colorful bloom during the warmer months. I am always on the hunt for beautiful flowers and gardens! Billings Farm currently has a beautiful Sunflower House operating for summer! The “Sunflower House” is included in your general admission ticket and is currently open as of Late August. The farm has not announced how long this attraction will be taking place, so be sure to check their website to see if it is operating during your planned day of visit.

A general admission ticket for the farm costs $17 per person ages 16-61. Discounts are available for children, seniors, and students. This page breaks down current admission prices as well as the hours of operation. There are also ice cream and snacks available for purchase at the farm.

1 PM to 2 PM: Lunch at Mon Vert Cafe

By now, you’re likely ready for a yummy lunch break! Head to Mon Vert Cafe, a cozy eatery located in downtown Woodstock. This charming café offers a delectable menu filled with locally sourced ingredients and a welcoming ambiance. Whether you choose a gourmet sandwich, a savory quiche, or a vibrant salad, Mon Vert Cafe’s culinary creations will not disappoint! Pair your meal with a cup of artisanal coffee or a refreshing tea and savor every bite in this delightful ambiance.

2 PM to 3:30 PM: Stroll Around Downtown Woodstock

After lunch at Mon Vert Cafe, take a leisurely stroll around downtown Woodstock. The town’s center is a National Historic District, characterized by well-preserved Federal and Greek Revival architecture. Just a few minutes walk from the café is Woodstock Scoops, a local creamery serving the most delicious mapel creemee with maple crunchies – Yum!

The charming streets are lined with boutique shops, art galleries, and inviting eateries. Be sure to browse the unique goods at local stores like F. H. Gillingham & Sons, a country store with a history dating back to the 1880s. Also, don’t forget to check out the picturesque Woodstock Inn & Resort. This inn is nestled in the heart of the downtown across from The Green.

As you wander, you’ll likely find yourself in the shadow of the iconic Middle Covered Bridge, a symbol of Woodstock’s enduring charm. The covered bridge spans the Ottauquechee River and is a perfect spot for photos. This is just one of the many covered bridges across Vermont!

3:30 PM to 5 PM: Make Sweet Memories at Sugarbush Farm

After a stroll around town, continue your Woodstock adventure with a FREE visit to Sugarbush Farm. This farm is just a short drive from the downtown. Please note that the road is a little bumpy/rocky on the way to this farm, but we did not have any issues with it.

This family-owned farm has been producing award-winning Vermont cheese and pure maple syrup for generations. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by the sweet aroma of maple syrup production. Take a self-guided tour through the Maple Walk and Sugarhouse, where you can learn about the maple syrup-making process and taste the various grades of syrup produced on-site.

But that’s not all—Sugarbush Farm is renowned for its cheese. Sample an array of artisanal cheeses, from tangy cheddars to creamy goudas, and discover the rich flavors that make Vermont cheese famous worldwide. We sampled four different cheeses during our visit, and they were all incredible! They also do free samples of maple syrup which are delectible. As your day in Woodstock draws to a close, consider purchasing some maple syrup and cheese as souvenirs or gifts from the market store.

I recently returned from a lovely weekend trip to Newport, RI and enjoyed the most yummy food! Newport is definitely a foodie town, on top of being home to numerous attractions and coastal sights. You can find plenty of fresh seafood and a multitude of cuisines across the island. Newport has a little bit of everything from hip Italian restaurants, pubs/taverns, seafood, brunch, sweet treats, and lots more! If you are looking for where to eat in Newport, Rhode Island 2022, then keep on reading to find out some of my favorite spots*!

*note: the restaurants/eateries mentioned in this article are places I have personal experience with, and there are still many other restaurants in Newport that are worth trying. These are only some of the great eateries Newport is home to.

BREAKFAST & BRUNCH EATERIES

1. Root

Root is a casual vegan eatery specializing in breakfast & lunch bowls ($9-$13.50+), juices ($9.25-$10.25), coffee ($3.15-$6.25), matcha & tea ($3-$5.50), and smoothies ($9.25). I enjoyed a delicious açaí bowl here as well as my friends! My friend also loved their lavender infused iced coffee. This is a small but cute spot with limited indoor seating, and they do take-out as well. If you are looking for a quick and healthy breakfast, I recommend checking out Root on Broadway!

2. Annie’s

Annie’s has that classic diner feel serving up American comfort food and an all-day breakfast. They offer classic breakfast dishes such as benedict’s, omelettes & other egg dishes, pancakes, french toast and more! If you are looking for a basic sit-down breakfast, then I’d recommend checking out Annie’s on Bellevue Ave. The staff give a warm welcome, and the prices are reasonable. I enjoyed the crab cake egg’s benny ($16.25) and a fresh baked croissant. They also offer sandwiches, soups, salads and more classic lunch fare.

3. Drift Cafe

Drift Cafe is a simple joint serving up nutritious bowls & breakfast fare, in addition to coffee & smoothies. I dined here last year during my stay in Newport, and enjoyed a refreshing smoothie bowl! They offer limited indoor and outdoor seating, plus takeout! You can have a quick and simple meal here!

4. Corner Cafe

The Corner Cafe offers breakfast and lunch fare in a cozy setting. This BYOB joint is great for a classic brunch, and tends to get busy! I dined here last year for breakfast and enjoyed an eggs benedict. They serve up numerous breakfast specials, omelettes, breakfast burritos, pancakes and more! The benedict and burrito dishes my boyfriend and I ordered were delicious, although we didn’t feel the pancakes were anything special. The staff are friendly and the prices are fair. The menu has a lot of choices for breakfast and lunch, and they even have an entire grilled pizza menu!

5. Diego’s

Diego’s is a popular restaurant in the heart of downtown Newport serving up west coast-style Mexican food & a variety of drinks. This hip eatery is one of my favorites to dine at while in Newport as the vibe is laid-back, the food is delicious, and the prices are reasonable! Diego’s turns out tasty burritos ($15+), tacos ($14-$17), quesadillas ($15), dinner plates ($23-$34), appetizers to share ($11.50-$17+), guac, and more! This feel good spot tends to get crowded on weekend nights, so I recommend making a reservation in advance!

6. Pasta Beach

I discovered Pasta Beach last year during my trip to Newport, and had to return this year! Everything about this restaurant is amazing from the cute and cozy ambience, accommodating staff, amazing pasta & pizza dishes, and fair pricing. If you are looking for delicious Italian food in Newport, then I highly recommend you check out Pasta Beach! My friends and I shared a cacio e pepe tartufo pizza as an appetizer which was unique and tasty ($23). We also ordered an assortment of different pasta dishes ($17-$25+). All of their food is mouth-watering and the portions are sizable. Pasta Beach also has a nice selection of cocktails, beers and wine. I recommend making a reservation in advance as this is another very popular spot in town!

7. The Clarke Cooke House Candy Store/Bistro

The Clarke Cooke House has two different dining options: 1) their upscale dining room in a picturesque 18th-century building with fancy and more expensive New England fare, and 2) their Candy Store/Bistro, which is more of a casual indoor and outdoor patio setting with simple New England fare and no formal dress code. We dined at the casual bistro for lunch and enjoyed a plethora of seafood dishes and New England favorites such as oysters, clam chowder, and fish-based entrees. This comes off as more of a touristy-spot, but the food is still enjoyable and considering the location, the prices were not too crazy high! I enjoyed a simple smoked salmon sandwich ($15.75), while my boyfriend ate the tuna tartine ($16.50). The clam chowder is tasty and thinner in consistency, making it a little lighter feeling. My friend said the oysters he ordered were delicious. They also serve sushi in the bistro dining area starting at 5pm for dinner. I wouldn’t personally go out of my way to dine here, but overall, we enjoyed everything we ate and found the experience to be pleasant!

8. Newport Lobster Shack

Address: Trailer, 150 Long Wharf Mall, Newport, RI 02840

The Newport Lobster Shack is a casual dockside joint that offers fresh lobster, rolls and bisques/chowders. They offer take-out and limited outdoor picnic table seating. I did not personally dine here, but my friends grabbed a lobster roll with 6 oz of meat ($29) and a clam chowder ($7), and said everything was delicious! Lobster rolls are pretty pricy, but these are a little more reasonable compared to other spots in Newport. They said it is a good amount of lobster meat on the roll, and the chowder has that nice thick/creamy consistency. If you are looking for a quick and casual lobster dish, I would check out the Newport Lobster Shack.

IN NEW YORK

1. Coney Island, Brooklyn, NY

NYC and its surrounding areas can’t go unmentioned in this article. You can visit Coney Island in Brooklyn for the day and enjoy the amusements, boardwalk, beach, and more fun! Check out the calendar for the Luna Amusement Park here to see their operating hours. Visitors can easily spend an entire day at Coney Island between the amusement park and the beach. You can extend the day by grabbing dinner at a local restaurant. One of my favorite NYC restaurants is Olio e Piú in Greenwich Village! Their ricotta toast and handmade pasta dishes are out of this world! A casual favorite spot of mine is Tacombi, which has multiple locations throughout the city and serves up mouth-watering Mexican dishes!

2. Untermyer Park & Gardens, Yonkers, NY

Untermyer Park & Gardens is a historic garden with European influence located in Yonkers, NY. I visited last year and absolutely adore the beauty of this place. Visitors can spend a few hours walking around and taking photos here, and then enjoy a local eatery for dinner! I enjoyed a delicious meal at Cocina Chente in the Bronx after visiting the gardens. Untermyer Park & Gardens is also on my list of 12 Instagrammable photo spots in NYC!

3. New York Botanical Garden

The New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx is a breath-of-fresh-air spot in the city to admire nature’s beauty. Tickets are required to enter the garden and can be purchased here. The Garden is open from 10 am to 6 pm Tuesday through Sunday and is only open on Mondays when there is a federal holiday. Spend a few hours here and grab a bite to eat on the premises or at a local restaurant. You can also check out the Bronx Zoo nearby and have a fun New York day!

4. Woodstock, NY

Woodstock, New York is only about an hour and a half drive from Bergen County and is a cute town to walk around. I visited about two years ago and made a whole day of it. Grab a bite to eat in the town of Woodstock and hike the nearby Overlook Mountain. Check out my vlog below to see how we spent the day here!

5. Mount Beacon Park, NY

If you are into the outdoors and hiking, then visiting Mount Beacon Park in New York is a great day trip for you! Mount Beacon Park is roughly an hour’s drive from North Jersey, 1.5-2+ hours from Central Jersey, and 2.5-3+ hours from South Jersey. Start the day trip with an incredible lunch at Hudson Taco in Newburgh, and then cross the Hudson River to Mount Beacon Park.

We hiked to the Mount Beacon Fire Tower when we visited, and found the hike to be moderate, with some moderate ascents. The views are stunning, especially during the summer and fall months! Add more to this day trip by making a pitstop in the nearby downtowns of Cold Spring and/or Beacon. Check out my vlogs below to see how I spent two different days in this area.

6. The Town of Cold Spring & Breakneck Ridge Trailhead, NY

Cold Spring is a quaint New York downtown with history, shops, local eateries, and scenic views. I recommend grabbing brunch or lunch at Hudson Hil’s Cafe, which is a casual sit-down restaurant nestled in the heart of Cold Spring. Cold Spring is roughly an hour’s drive from Bergen County and two hours from Monmouth County, and is a worthwhile day trip!

If you are into hiking and like a challenge, I recommend checking out Breakneck Ridge Trail at the Hudson Highlands State Park while here. We trekked the long loop, and found this hike to be pretty challenging with the rock scrambles, but overall enjoyable! The views are stunning throughout the majority of this trail, making this a memorable trek! Check out my vlog below to see how I spent the day here!

7. Bear Mountain, NY

Bear Mountain is a popular New York hiking spot located about a 0.5 to 2-hour drive from those who reside in the top half of New Jersey. This is another great outdoorsy day trip for those who admire a scenic hike. There may be a fee to enter – check out more info here.

8. Harriman State Park, NY

Harriman State Park is very close to Bear Mountain and offers a wide array of hiking trails and scenic woodlands for all levels! One of the best trails to hike at Harriman State Park is the Reeves Brook Loop Trail. This moderately challenging loop offers multiple scenic vistas and has plenty of streams winding throughout the trail. The Reeves Brook Loop Trail is roughly four miles and typically takes around 2+ hours to complete.

Parking and public restrooms are available at the Reeves Meadow Visitor Center, which is where the hike begins. When doing this loop trail in the counterclockwise direction (starting on white trail markers), hikers must climb a moderately challenging and steep rock scramble to get to the main vista. It is advised that beginners or families with young children start this hike clockwise (on red trail markers). Visitors who begin the hike clockwise can follow the red trail markers to the blue trail markers and enjoy stunning vistas from the top of the mountain. Hikers who follow this route can then turn around to get back to the parking lot the same way they came, avoiding the steep rock scramble. As a somewhat experienced hiker, I personally loved the rock scramble here and found it to be a fun trek, but please use your own discretion to decide which route is best suited for you! 9. Storm King Art Center, NY

The Storm King Art Center is a unique spot to visit in the summer. Visitors can explore the property and check out uniquely crafted sculptures and large art displays. The Storm King Art Center is closed on Tuesdays and operates Wednesday through Monday from 10 am to 5:30 pm. Tickets must be purchased prior to arrival and more info can be found here.

10. Teatown Lake Reservation, NY

Teatown Lake Reservation in Westchester County, NY is a 1,000-acre nature preserve and education center. The Reservation is roughly a 40-minute to 2-hour drive from the top half of New Jersey depending on where you reside. Hiking trails are open 365 days a year from dawn to dusk, and parking costs $5.

11. Walkway Over the Hudson Bridge & Poughkeepsie, NY

Visiting the Walkway Over The Hudson Park is a great day trip in New York State. This walking bridge is located roughly a 1+ hour drive from North Jersey and a 2+ hour drive from most of Central Jersey. While this may be a bit far from South Jersey, if you get an early enough start to the day, I think this can still be a worthwhile trip!

The scenic walkway connects from Highland, NY to Poughkeepsie, crossing over the Hudson River. Visitors can walk across the bridge and check out the town of Poughkeepsie and Marist College. Marist College has a beautiful campus, and is worth checking out while in the area! Finish off the day by grabbing a delicious dinner at Hudson Taco on the way back down to Jersey. Hudson Taco is a riverfront restaurant located in the heart of Newburgh. This charming, hip restaurant is a must-visit whenever I am up in this area of New York!

IN CONNECTICUT

12. New Haven, CT

New Haven, Connecticut is a great day trip from Northeast Jersey as it is about a two-hour drive from Bergen County. I visited nearly two years ago and enjoyed visiting the area. While in New Haven, visitors can grab Frank Pepe’s famous pizza and walk around the local neighborhoods and parks. Visitors can also explore the beautiful and historic Yale University campus. 13. Mianus River Park, CT

Mianus River Park, on the Greenwich/Stamford border in Connecticut, is a nature reserve with trails, a 2-mile-long river, scenic forestland, and more nature-esque beauty. If you are looking for an outdoorsy escape, then this is a nice day trip option from Northern New Jersey. This park is roughly a 1-2 hour drive from North and Central Jersey, depending on where you are located.

IN PENNSYLVANIA

14. Philadelphia, PA

A day trip from Jersey to Philly is a classic but goodie! Explore the city streets and check out the Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Zoo, Independence Hall, Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, and so much more! Enjoy a delicious cheesesteak from Cleaver’s, or one of Philly’s local spots, and have yourself a day!

15. Longwood Gardens, PA

Longwood Gardens is located directly outside of the main city of Philadelphia in Kennett Square, PA. Tickets are required for timed entry to the gardens and can be purchased here. Give yourself at least a few hours to explore the property and take in the beauty of these stunning botanical gardens! A visit to Longwood Gardens can also be combined with a trip to Philadelphia as they are so close.

16. Delaware Water Gap, PA

The Delaware Water Gap lies between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The Delaware Water Gap includes 40 miles of the Delaware River, 100+ miles of hiking trails, and even a few beaches. Visitors can go rafting, canoeing, kayaking, tubing, hiking, and more here. I recommend grabbing a sweet treat at the Village and Farmer Bakery while you’re in the area.

17. Allentown, PA

Allentown is an eastern Pennsylvania town not too far from the Garden State! If you are into museums, you can check out the Allentown Art Museum, the Mack Trucks Historical Museum, the America on Wheels Museum, and more. Dorney Park is also right around the corner if you are interested in a summer waterpark and amusement adventure! There are numerous parks in the Allentown area worth checking out such as the Allentown Rose Gardens, which include walking paths, pavilions, and a scenic garden. The charming downtown of Bethlehem, PA is also about a 15-minute drive from Allentown, and it definitely worth checking out if you are into local shopping and eateries!

18. Jenkins Arboretum and Morris Arboretum, PA

There are quite a few arboretums and nature reserves in Pennsylvania not too far from New Jersey. The Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens is roughly a 20-30 minute drive outside of the City of Philadelphia. This Arboretum, located in the town of Devon, is free to enter and offers 48 acres of beautiful gardens and woodlands. Visitors can also enjoy 1.2 miles of walking trails here.

Roughly a 25-minute drive from The Jenkins Arboretum is the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania. Entry to the Morris Arboretum is $20 per non-member adult and tickets can be reserved here.

19. Valley Forge National Historic Park, PA

Less than a 10-minute drive west of the Jenkins Arboretum lies Valley Forge National Historic Park. With a history dating back to the late 1700s, Valley Forge is a great spot for those who love nature but also a historic back story. The charming town of New Hope in Bucks County, PA is a popular downtown to stroll on a warm, sunny day. (or really any time of the year)! Go back in time and take in the beauty of the scenic town alongside the Delaware River. Enjoy shopping, dining, and cultural attractions. Visitors can also walk across the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge to Lambertville, NJ for additional shopping and dining options. A popular local attraction in this area is Peddler’s Village. Peddler’s Village is about an eight-minute drive from downtown New Hope and is home to numerous restaurants and shops.

Acadia National Park covers tens of thousands acres of land, and each year receives millions of visitors. As one of the most visited national parks in the United States, and being on the East Coast, I knew I wanted to make a trip out there. The most popular months to visit Acadia are July through September. A great time to visit is in the fall during peak foliage. I visited at the end of October, while the foliage was vibrant, and it truly made the views even more scenic. Acadia National Park is located mainly on Mt. Desert Island in Maine, as well as Bar Harbor. To learn more about how to spend a few days exploring and enjoying the incredible Acadia National Park, keep on reading!

Accommodations in Bar Harbor

The quaint town of Bar Harbor offers many hotels, motels, bed & breakfasts, restaurants, shops etc… just minutes away from Acadia National Park. Check out my full blog post on Bar Harbor and where to eat here. Since my boyfriend and I booked our trip last minute, we had less options to choose from. I recommend planning your trip to Acadia at least a month or more in advance if visiting in the busy season. Even though places tend to book up in Acadia, we were able to book a room at the Edenbrook Motel about two weeks before our trip. I found the price to be more reasonable compared to the places in downtown Bar Harbor. It may not be fancily decorated, but it was decently spacious, clean, and close to downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia.

Hiking & Sightseeing in Acadia National Park (Easy to Moderate Options)

Acadia offers 58 different hiking trails at various difficulty levels. There are trails and sights for basically everyone to enjoy here, and we leaned more towards Acadia’s easy/moderate trails during our trip. Acadia offers numerous hiking trails, and there are many view points that visitors can access via car. We checked out and explored some very cool and beautiful spots throughout Acadia. Make sure you purchase a pass to enter the park. It is $30 for a private vehicle and the pass lasts for one week. We purchased it online, printed it, and kept it displayed on our dashboard.

Driving on Park Loop Road

Park Loop Road is a 27 mile scenic road that takes you through the heart of Acadia National Park. This road allows access to Acadia’s major points such as Sand Beach, Schooner Head Overlook, Otter Point, Cadillac Mountain, The Wild Gardens of Acadia, Thunder Hole, Jordan Pond, Bubbles Divide and more! You will do plenty of scenic driving along Park Loop Rd throughout your trip to Acadia.

Day 1

The Bubbles & Bubble Rock

The Bubbles hiking trails are deemed moderate and offer beautiful views of Jordan Pond, Eagle Lake, Bubble Rock and the forest. We parked at the Bubbles Divide trailhead parking lot off Park Loop Road which is small, and you may have to come early to get a spot depending on how crowded the park is when you visit. After parking, we began our trek up the Bubbles Divide trailhead. This trail has rocky stairways and formations throughout making it a moderate hike. We hiked about 0.3 mile and arrived at a fork in the path. Here you can chose which Bubble summit you want to hike up to. We began hiking to the North Bubble Summit, which is 0.2 mile from the Bubbles Divide trailhead fork. At an elevation of only 872 feet it doesn’t take long to get to the top, and the view is very rewarding!

From the North Bubble Summit, we backtracked to the bubbles divide trailhead, and went the other direction towards the South Bubble Summit/Bubble Rock. This is a 0.3 mile hike from the fork and again, does not take long. At the South Bubble Summit, there is a pathway which takes 2-3 minutes to get to Bubble Rock. Bubble Rock is a glacial erratic which lays on the edge of the cliff. The rock is stable and set on the cliff, and from certain angles appears like it could roll right off. At the South Bubble Summit, you can take in a breathtaking view of Jordan Pond.

Hiking to both Bubbles from the Bubbles Divide trailhead parking lot comes out to roughly 1.6 miles total.

Parking lot to North Bubble (0.5 mile), backtrack to the Bubbles Divide Fork (0.2 mile), hike up to the South Bubble Summit and Bubble Rock (0.3 mile), and backtrack to the parking lot (0.6 mile) = 1.6 miles. I recommend giving yourself 1.5-2 hours for The Bubbles including some time to take photos and enjoy the view.

Jordan Pond

From The Bubbles Divide parking lot, you can take a brief drive on Park Loop Rd to the Jordan Pond parking lot. From the parking lot you can walk down a pathway to Jordan Pond, which gives access to the Jordan Pond Path; a 3.1 mile loop around the pond. The base of Jordan Pond offers a beautiful view of The Bubbles behind the water. The Jordan Pond House Restaurant is a short walk from here as well. We didn’t eat at that restaurant, but the view from there is stunning and people rave about their popovers.

Day 1 Thoughts

Overall, we did not do too much hiking on day one of our trip as we spent the morning and evening exploring downtown Bar Harbor. If you get an earlier start to the day, you can easily add in another hike to your itinerary. Check out Acadia on All Trails to pinpoint which hikes sound best to you.

Day 2

Wild Gardens of Acadia

The Wild Gardens of Acadia are located at the Sieur de Monts Spring and Nature Center. This is a quick stop to make a long the way down Park Loop Rd from downtown Bar Harbor. The Wild Gardens display hundreds of native plant species and allows visitors to wander along the pathway overlooking the vegetation. From the garden, you can walk over to the Sieur de Monts Spring. Here you can also access some trailheads such as one leading to Dorr Mountain. This can be a relatively quick stop in Acadia if you are just checking out the spring and garden.

Schooner Head Overlook

Drive south on Park Loop Rd from The Wild Gardens of Acadia to arrive at the Schooner Head Overlook. The overlook is just outside of Acadia National Park and prior to the Sand Beach Entrance Station. You can park at the Schooner Head Overlook and walk down a short pathway which delivers stunning views of the water. We took some photos on the rocks along the water and enjoyed the view.

Sand Beach

This is the first point we visited at Acadia National park that required us to show our paid park pass. Entry to the Sand Beach parking lot requires a paid park pass. Attendants working at the Sand Beach Entrance Station will check your prepaid park pass or allow you to purchase one in-person. We paid $30 for a private vehicle pass that lasts for one week. At the Sand Beach parking lot are public restrooms. You can park and check out the famous Sand Beach which is surrounded by mountainous views. Sand Beach also allows access to the Ocean Path; a family-friendly coastal pathway that stretches approximately two miles to Otter Point.

Hike The Bowl Trail

From the Sand Beach parking lot, you can cross the street to begin The Bowl Trail. Here is where you can also access the Beehive Trail. The Bowl Trail is a moderate hike that leads to The Bowl, a large body of water surrounded by the forest and mountains. While this hike has many stairs, I do not find it very challenging. The view of the bowl is very cool and unique. When we visited, the weather was cloudy and the view of The Bowl was very ominous. There is a pathway that goes around The Bowl, and you can take this to get to the Beehive Trail if you wish to take on a more daring hike.

Thunder Hole

If you continue driving south on Park Loop Rd from the Sand Beach parking lot, you will come across Thunder Hole. This is a quick stop to make in Acadia, and offers a nice view of the water along the rocky shores. Thunder Hole will be more intense with a rougher surf. The surf was very calm that day we visited and Thunder Hole didn’t look as treacherous. Overall, we enjoyed Thunder Hole and it is definitely worth the stop!

Bar Harbor is a quaint coastal town in Maine, home to some of Acadia National Park. I visited for the first time at the end of October and really enjoyed what this area has to offer. From fresh seafood to local shops and scenic views, Bar Harbor is a top town in Maine to visit!

Accommodations in Bar Harbor

Bar Harbor is home to numerous hotels, motels, bed & breakfasts etc… Depending on which place you chose, it can get pricy to stay here. My boyfriend and I booked our trip to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor kind of last minute, and had limited options to chose from. I recommend booking your stay at least a month or more in advance, especially if you plan to visit in the summer or early fall. We stayed at the Edenbrook Motel, a more affordable accommodation in Bar Harbor. I found this to be significantly cheaper than the places located in downtown Bar Harbor. It is only a five minute drive to the downtown, and was comfortable for us to stay in.

Room: 4.4/5 (clean & simple with a shower, mini fridge, AC/heat, and decently comfortable bed)

Check-in process: 4.6/5 (super quick, we received our keys and were off to our unit. They did not inform us of the self-locking doors, so we locked ourselves out and had to go back for a second key)

Restaurant & Eateries in Bar Harbor

Bar Harbor is home to numerous seafood restaurants and local eateries serving regional fare. Since we visited at the end of October, many of the restaurants were closed for the season. None the less, we still had many great options to choose from, and really enjoyed the food we ate during our visit.

1. Breakfast at Jordan’s Restaurant

Jordan’s Restaurant was one of the only sit down breakfast spots open when we visited at the end of October. Despite us visiting on a weekday, there was still a long wait for a table. We waited about 45 minutes, and walked around downtown Bar Harbor in the meantime. This is your classic diner-style menu with dishes such as wild Maine blueberry pancakes, omelettes, breakfast potatoes, blueberry muffins, lobster rolls and more. We ordered a plethora of breakfast food and enjoyed every bite of it. The blueberries are incredible here in Maine, so the blueberry pancakes with real Maine maple syrup are delicious, as well as the muffins. My boyfriend ordered an omelette with a side of oatmeal which he enjoyed, and we also had toast and potatoes. Overall, the food is comforting/yummy, the service is super friendly, the prices are fair, and the atmosphere is just like your classic old-school diner.

2. Quick, Healthy Bites at A & B Naturals

A & B Naturals is a food market that also has a smoothie/juice counter. This is a great stop for a quick and healthy breakfast or lunch. We love smoothies and this was the only place open when we visited Acadia that had them. We both ordered fresh fruit smoothies which were delicious, as well as some pre-made bites. I enjoyed a cinnamon roll with my smoothie, and my boyfriend grabbed a nutritious quinoa salad and packaged protein cookie. The prices are a little high as it is convenient, but not too bad (around $7-$10 per smoothie). They only had two people working the cafe when we visited, so we did have to wait about ten minutes to get our smoothies, which wasn’t a big deal. We sat at a bench outside of the store and enjoyed our eats before heading to Acadia National Park. There is a dedicated smoothie place in Bar Harbor called Thrive Juice Bar & Kitchen, but they are temporarily closed for the season and reopen next year. I definitely want to try this place the next time I am in Bar Harbor.

3. Breakfast Sandwiches and Baked Goods at The Stadium

The Stadium is a casual eatery/gift shop offering amazing breakfast sandwiches, lobster mac and cheese, handmade rolls, baked treats and more. We had breakfast here on our last day in Bar Harbor and really enjoyed it. Their breakfast sandwiches are served on fresh baked rolls, either plain or everything. We got ours with a soufflé-style egg, sausage patty, and cheddar cheese on an everything roll. Their rolls are light, fluffy and perfect for this classic sandwich. I also purchased a pumpkin whoopie pie here and it was fantastic! I did not try the lobster mac and cheese or lobster roll, but I’m sure they are amazing! The people working here are very welcoming and attentive, and the prices are reasonable. The Stadium can get a bit crowded as it is definitely a popular choice for a quick breakfast or lunch.

4. Paninis at Lunch Bar Harbor

Lunch Bar Harbor serves exactly what you expect it to… Lunch (well you can get breakfast here too). This spot is another quick option that offers handcrafted sandwiches, paninis, and soup. They offer unique combinations made with fresh ingredients. I enjoyed a toasted panini to-go with ham, cheese, sliced apples and balsamic. Lunch Bar Harbor also has tables inside for a dine-in experience. The decor encapsulates homey cabin vibes, the service is friendly, and the prices are reasonable.

5. Seafood at Peekytoe Provisions

Peekytoe Provisions offers regional seafood dishes and outdoor dining. We enjoyed crab bisque to start, which has a more liquid-y consistency here, but is full of rich flavor. For my entree I had the crabby patty burger ($19) which was incredible. This crab cake sandwich is flavorful, and served on a challah bun with red pepper aioli, pickled onions, lettuce and roasted tomato. This is honestly the best crab cake sandwich I have eaten in a long time! My boyfriend ordered the 6″ hot lobster roll ($26) and found it tasty, but nothing that stands out. The roll can be served hot in butter or cold with a dash of mayonnaise. Both of the entrees we ordered are served with a pickle and fresh coleslaw. For dessert we enjoyed a decadent slice of blueberry pie, which is delicious here. Overall, the service is welcoming, prices are fair considering the nature of the meals (fresh, locally caught seafood), and the atmosphere is outdoor dining only with a cute view overlooking the town. Bundle up on a chilly night if you choose to dine here, or do the takeout option.

6. American Eats at Side Street Cafe

Side Street Cafe is an American eatery/bar with bar fare, seafood dishes and more. We enjoyed a casual dinner here while in Bar Harbor, but they are temporarily closed for the season as of November 2021. I recommend putting your name on the waitlist when visiting here as it is definitely a popular spot. On a Thursday night we waited around an hour for a table, and it was worth the wait. The restaurant offers dishes such as create-your-own mac and cheese, lobster, salads, starters, soups/chowders, sandwiches, burgers and more. We started with chips and queso, and it was delicious and mild. The mac and cheese is decently creamy and I added sautéed shrimp and bacon to mine which was yummy. You can order either a half portion or full portion of the mac and cheese, and I love how they offer a variety of add-ins. The full portion with added shrimp and bacon ($24.95) is quite hefty and ended up being too much for me to finish. My boyfriend ordered the blackened salmon salad ($21.95) which is a healthier option on the menu, and we both thought it tasted pretty good. Overall, the food is tasty and comforting, the service is friendly and the atmosphere is lively.

7. Seafood Rolls at Charlotte’s Legendary Lobster Pound (Southwest Harbor)

Charlotte’s Legendary Lobster Pound is not located in Bar Harbor, but it is a great eatery in the neighboring town of Southwest Harbor. This is about 25-30 minutes southwest of Bar Harbor. This casual joint offers a plethora of regional seafood fare. The crab roll is yummy and served cold, and the shrimp roll is full of lightly-fried baby shrimp. They also have lobster rolls here which we did not try, but I am sure they are great. The lobster bisque is perfectly creamy and thick, and I enjoyed the bacon-wrapped scallops. The prices are in-line with other seafood eateries we came across in Maine ($$), and the seafood tastes very fresh. The service is welcoming and the atmosphere is casual. You order at the counter and are called when it is ready. They have a few picnic tables outside where you can sit and enjoy your food, which is what we did.

8. Ice Cream at Mt. Desert Island Ice Cream

Mt. Desert Island Ice Cream is a local ice cream shop that scoops up homemade flavors with an assortment of simple toppings. We came here pretty late right before they were closing, so they were sold out of a lot of the flavors. We did still pick some flavors that sounded yummy and enjoyed our scoops. I had the apple pie flavored ice cream which tasted exactly like its name. The ice cream is creamy and rich, and I wish we could have tried some of the other flavors. There was one girl working when we visited and she was very friendly. The shop is cute on the inside and the prices are typical of a more touristy area, but not too high.

Things to do in Bar Harbor

1. Hike Acadia National Park

This is the main attraction to check out while staying in Bar Harbor. Check out my blog post on Acadia National Park here! I share the best hikes and sightseeing to do in the park!

2. Check out Agamont Park

Agamont Park is a grassy area with benches that has stunning views of Frenchman Bay and leads to the scenic Shore Path. Enjoy a breakfast sandwich from The Stadium here as you overlook the scenery.

3. Walk along the Shore Path

The Shore Path is a peaceful walkway along the shoreline with views of Distant Islands such as Bar Island and Sheep Porcupine Island. The path starts at the Town Pier at Agamont Park and passes the Bar Harbor Inn and other private homes along the water. The out and back pathway is only about a mile and a half, and is a mellow stroll along the water.

4. Shop in the Downtown

There are many local shops in downtown Bar Harbor. From clothing stores to gift stores, enjoy shopping or window shopping here.

5. A Boat Tour

Boat Tours seem like a nice thing to do here on a clear day. We did not personally do this during our visit, but we saw the boats in the water by Agamont Park. They offer whale watching tours, sunset cruises and more. Here is a list of boat tour and cruise options offered in Bar Harbor.

6. Walk Across the Land Bridge from Bar Harbor to Bar Island

We did not do this during our trip to Bar Harbor, but it looks like a very cool and unique excursion. During low tide, there is a sandbar that you can walk across that connects Bar Harbor and Bar Island. The hike is about 1.9 miles round trip including continuation of the hike on the Bar Island trail. Here you can experience views of Bar Harbor and Frenchman Bay, but make sure you watch your time as you can only do this hike 1.5 hours before and after low tide. 7. Enjoy a Local Eatery

Try one of the local restaurants, cafes, or bakeries in the downtown. There are many to choose from and I outlined my favorite at the beginning of this article. Maine is known for its fresh seafood, especially lobster, as well as it’s wild blueberries. I recommend enjoying a seafood roll/lobster roll and a slice of blueberry pie while in Bar Harbor.

NIGHT ONE

North End (Little Italy of Boston)

Before arriving to the city, I made a dinner reservation for two at an Italian Restaurant in the North End. I always crave pasta when I visit Boston, and they have many great options to chose from here. We dined at Casarecce Ristorante for the first time during our recent visit, and both enjoyed our dishes. I have eaten at a few Italian eateries in the North End before including Giacamo’s, Vinoteca di Monica, and Florentine Cafe. I recommend all of these as we enjoyed delicious pasta dishes in the ambience of Boston’s exciting Little Italy.

Dinner at Casarecce Ristorante

While we were waiting for our reservation time to come, we walked around Faneuil Hall and the Quincy Market, which is not too far from the North End. We wandered the crowded streets of the North End and then made our way to Casarecce. The restaurant is small but quaint, and seemed quieter than the neighboring restaurants in the North End. We dined indoors and tables were a bit small, but gave us no issue. The restaurant seemed a little short staffed when we visited, so we waited more than a few minutes for our water. The waiter did apologize for that (which really was no big deal), and was overall very friendly and welcoming. At Casarecce, they start you with fresh bread and olive oil which is delicious. Some of the dishes are made with handmade pasta, and some are not. We both chose dishes made with fresh pasta. I ordered the gnocchi pesto ($24). The portion was pretty big, and the handmade gnocchi was very soft and decadent. The sauce was different from traditional basil pesto as it was pretty creamy and garlicky. My boyfriend ordered the chicken cacciatore ($24), which he enjoyed as well. This dish is lighter as it is not served in a rich cream sauce, but rather a rosemary-balsamic red wine glaze. This dish includes tender chicken breast, sautéed mushrooms, peppers and tomatoes, over handmade casarecce pasta. Overall, we enjoyed our meals here, and the prices ($21-$32/entree) were pretty in-line with the rest of the eateries we’ve been to in the North End.

Dessert at Mike’s Pastry

Cannoli’s at Mike’s Pastry are a MUST when visiting Boston! They truly are the best (and biggest) cannoli’s I have personally ever eaten. At $5 per cannoli (cash only at the North End location), I can vouch that they are worth every penny. With so many flavors/fillings to choose from, plus other pastries, cookies, cakes etc… Mike’s Pastry is one of my favorite spots in Boston to grab a sweet treat.

The Next Day: A Full Day Exploring Boston

I am so happy we decided to visit Boston in October, because the fall foliage really makes it even better here! With this being our only full day in Boston, we knew we needed to prepare for a lot of walking. We had a great day wandering around the city (and eating of course). Here’s how we spent a full day in Boston.

Breakfast in Cambridge & Visiting Harvard University

We opted for a simple yet delicious smoothie bowl from Playa Bowls in downtown Cambridge. As a NJ-native, I am a huge fan of Playa Bowls and am happy to know you can get them in Boston as well. After breakfast, we walked around the Cambridge area which is full of shops, restaurants and bustling crowds of locals, students, and tourists walking around. I recommend walking around the famous Harvard University Campus as it truly is one of the nicest campuses with lots of history and stunning architecture. This is also a great spot for some artsy photos.

Parking in Downtown Boston for the Day

Following our lovely stroll through Cambridge, we drove over to downtown Boston where we spent the rest of our day. I recommend downloading the SpotHero app on your phone as it informs you of all available parking garages around the city, and their rates. We purchased parking for the entire day at The Garage at 10 St. James in Boston’s Back Bay area. It was only $18.75 for the entire day through the SpotHero app. Another garage we like in Boston is the Garage at Post Office Square.

The Boston Public Garden

If you park at St. James, it is only about a three minute walk to the Boston Public Garden. The Public Garden is great for a leisurely stroll with a touch of nature. The spacious grassy areas are great for picnicking, and there are many benches throughout the garden as well. There are historical monuments/statues in the garden, as well as a large body of water, a photogenic footbridge you can cross, flowers, and more beauty. My boyfriend and I spent about 20-30 minutes walking through here and enjoyed the scenery.

The Boston Common

From the Public Garden you can walk a few minutes over to the Boston Common. This is a huge grassy park that offers nice views of the city, space for outdoor activities, a carousel, and more. They also have public restrooms here which is great to know when you are walking around the city all day. We walked through the Boston Common for roughly 20-30 minutes and then we were on our way to the next spot!

Beacon Hill District

From the Boston Common, we walked about ten minutes over to the famous Beacon Hill District. Acorn Street, in the heart of Beacon Hill, is one of the most iconic streets for photography in Boston and the entire country. We made sure to check it out again during our recent visit. Acorn Street takes you back in time as it is one of the few streets left with a traditional cobblestone road. Lined with red brick homes and aesthetic doorsteps, Acorn Street is definitely worth a visit if you are in Boston. Most of the streets in Beacon Hill are full a beautiful homes and you can easily spend hours enjoying the scenery here. Charles Street is the main street in Beacon Hill with plenty of shops and eateries. We grabbed a quick lunch at Tatte on Charles Street, a local bakery and cafe chain here in Boston. They offer fresh baked pastries and breads, yummy sandwiches, salads, and more. We love eating at Tatte when we visit Boston! Brimmer Street is another aesthetic street for photos as well.

Boston Public Library

We walked on Beacon Street (another street with aesthetic homes), and made our way to the Boston Public Library. This was our first time visiting the famous library, and it did not disappoint. Entry is free for the library, and you can easily spend an hour or more here if you really want to take it all in. There are numerous rooms to walk through, all offering beautiful architecture. Also, there tends to be a lot of students and locals studying/working here. Bates Hall, the main room where we saw people working, is beautiful and lined with many book cases. I highly recommend checking out the Boston Public Library, which is located by Copley Square.

Commonwealth Avenue Mall

From the library we walked over to the beautiful Commonwealth Ave which is lined with many brownstones. This is another one of my favorite photo spots in Boston! Commonwealth Ave is very picturesque and most of the homes really do-up their doorsteps for fall with aesthetic decor and shrubbery. The fall foliage really topped off our view of this beautiful street as well. In the middle of the street is a long pathway called the Commonwealth Avenue Mall. There are numerous statues throughout this path, as well as benches to sit and enjoy the ambience.

Newbury Street

Just about two blocks from Commonwealth Ave is Newbury Street. This street is full of shops, restaurants, cafe’s and more. If you are looking to spend some money or just window shop, this is the street for you! Last year when we visited, we ate at a few places on Newbury Street: Mother Juice (smoothie bowls, juice…) and Stephanie’s on Newbury (comfort food/good for dinner). This is also where we like to get our favorite ice cream at Emack & Bolio’s (but we saved that for after dinner).

Fenway Park

Fenway Park is about a 15-20 minute walk from Newbury Street, so we headed over there for the evening. When we visited on Monday, the Boston Red Sox had a game going on, so the Fenway area was packed and lively with fans. The Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood is fun to walk through with all the popping restaurants/bars, and hangout spots.

A Casual Dinner at Chilacates

It was approaching dinner time when we decided to leave the Fenway area. We decided to keep the walking going and head to the South End neighborhood of Boston. This is about thirty minutes away by foot from Fenway. We grabbed a casual dinner at Chilacates, a local Mexican Restaurant. They have a few locations throughout Boston, but we decided to dine at the South End one. We both ordered burritos and for a fast-casual restaurant, the flavor was pretty good and we enjoyed this spot. If you aren’t into walking that far for dinner, there are plenty of places to eat in the Fenway-Kenmore area, on Newbury Street, and in the Brookline neighborhood. A few months ago when we visited, we had dinner at Bar ‘Cino in Brookline which has delicious pizza/flatbread and pasta dishes, and is only about a 10-15 minute walk from Fenway Park.

Dessert at Emack & Bolio’s

Yup, we really walked another 20-25 minutes just to get ice cream on a chilly fall night (we really like our ice cream). Emack & Bolio’s has a location on Newbury Street that we enjoy going to. I love going all in when I come here and getting one of the speciality cones with two large scoops of delicious ice cream. I have no shame in my almost $10 ice cream cone! It always tastes so good! Other dessert places we like are of course Mike’s Pastry for Cannoli’s, but also, Modern Pastry. Modern Pastry is located in the North End across from Mike’s, and also serves up delicious pastries. We had some yummy cakes from Mike’s during a past visit to Boston and really enjoyed them.

Boston: One of my Favorite Cities

Overall, there are so many amazing restaurants, bakeries, streets, sights to see, etc… in Boston. It would be hard to do it all in one day, but we feel we really saw a lot of the main treasures Boston has to offer during our 24 hours in the city. I will continue to return to this city every so often as it truly never gets old to me!

Where We Stayed

Our AirBnB was located in Richmond, VT, which is roughly a 25 minute drive from downtown Burlington. The town of Richmond is a great central location between Lake Champlain and Stowe. During our trip, we visited many towns throughout northern Vermont: Burlington, Shelburne, Charlotte, Waterbury, and Stowe. We also took the ferry across Lake Champlain to New York. Visitors and locals of Vermont can enjoy beautiful hikes/nature trails, and eating at the most incredible restaurants!

Wednesday (Night 1)

Dinner at The Big Spruce

My Boyfriend and I drove from northern New Jersey to Richmond, Vermont on Wednesday afternoon, arriving to our destination just in time for a late dinner. We dined in at The Big Spruce, a local taco restaurant in the quaint town of Richmond. The tacos are delicious here and were much appreciated after a long drive. The Big Spruce was offering outdoor seating when we visited in late August 2021. We started with the seasoned, house made tortilla chips paired with fresh guac and queso, which was very yummy. I ordered the crispy avocado taco and the fish taco, and both were delicious and decently sized. We finished off with thick, sugar-coated churros dipped in chocolate sauce. At The Big Spruce, the service is friendly, food is fresh, prices are reasonable, and atmosphere is welcoming and casual.

Thursday (Full Day 1)

Breakfast at Rustic Roots

Thursday morning was the start of our first full day in Vermont, and we knew that a fresh breakfast was just what we needed to officially kickstart our trip. My Boyfriend, his mom, and I drove to the town of Shelburne, where we dined at a very cute brunch place called Rustic Roots. We all enjoyed our meals here as they offer farm fresh options made with detail. I had the shirred eggs which are a delicious, baked egg dish with fresh vegetables and bacon. The buttered toast is also amazing here! We shared a stack of pancakes, which they serve with authentic maple syrup and butter. I rate Rustic Roots a solid 5/5 stars as they have a hearty menu full of farm fresh, house-made food. The service is friendly and atmosphere is very homey feeling.

Hiking Mt. Philo in Charlotte, VT

Following breakfast, the three of us did an easy to moderate hike at Mount Philo in Charlotte. It took us roughly an hour and a half to complete the entire hike including getting back to the parking lot and stopping at viewpoints for pictures. We started on the House Rock Trail which connects to the Summit Trail. The route we did takes roughly 30-45 minutes to reach the summit. Here you can get a beautiful view of Lake Champlain. I found this hike to be generally easy and enjoyable, with some man-made stairs and steeper ascents along the way. This is a family-friendly hiking spot with multiple scenic trail options to chose from!

Good Eats in Burlington

After our hike at Mt. Philo, we took a brief pitstop at Adams Berry Farm and grabbed a fresh popsicle. From there we drove back to Richmond and enjoyed some creemee’s at The Big Spruce. After our afternoon dessert, we headed back to our AirBnB to get ready for dinner in downtown Burlington. We dined at Pizzeria Verita and had a fantastic experience! The restaurant made a great effort to accommodate our large party of seven on a busy night. We sat at the bar and the service was speedy and friendly. Pizzeria Verita definitely delivers an exceptional and authentic Neapolitan pizza. I personally love a rustic bar pie, and that is exactly what you are going to get here. We also ordered the meatball appetizer to start which is superb here! By the time we finished dinner, it was getting late, so we briefly checked out Church Street (the main downtown street in Burlington) and got ice cream at Lake Champlain Chocolates. We explored Burlington more the following day.

Friday (Full Day 2)

Taking the Lake Champlain Ferry to New York

On Friday, we took the Lake Champlain ferry from Charlotte, VT to Essex, NY. We paid to transport our cars across the lake via the ferry and the ride was approximately twenty minutes. T his ferry ride offers beautiful views of Lake Champlain with the mountainous landscape in the distance. Once we arrived in the town of Essex, we briefly walked around and got some pictures in front of the lake.

Lunch in Plattsburg, NY

Following our walk through Essex, we drove about forty minutes north to Plattsburgh, NY and had a nice sit-down lunch at Our House Bistro. This restaurant has a large selection of unique mac & cheese dishes which most of us ordered. The crab rangoon mac & cheese comes as a hefty portion and is filled with immense flavor! Our House Bistro has a large menu with both classic and unique comfort food options, friendly service and a nice atmosphere. They also offer outdoor seating, which we enjoyed as it was a beautiful day when we visited.

Exploring Burlington, VT

From the restaurant we drove about 15 minutes to the Lake Champlain ferry departing from Plattsburgh, NY. The barely 15 minute ferry ride brought us to Grand Isle, VT. We drove from Grand Isle to downtown Burlington and explored the area. We walked up and down Church Street, which is the main street in downtown Burlington. Visitors and locals shop, dine and enjoy the occasional street performance here.

We continued to walk down to the waterfront, and then ran (literally) to the waterfront so we wouldn’t miss out on the perfect view of the sunset behind Lake Champlain. I highly recommend timing out your visit to the Burlington waterfront with the sunset as it truly offers a stunning vista. The waterfront has a long dock that people can walk on as well as grassy areas for picnicking, yoga classes, and relaxing vibes. You can easily spend a few hours, if not a whole day, exploring and enjoying the ambience, food and scenery of downtown Burlington!

Saturday (Full Day 3)

Waterbury Historic District

On the third full day of our trip, we decided to head out east and check out the Waterbury Historic District. This is a quaint downtown area that has a few restaurants, cafes, and local shops. We grabbed a quick bite for lunch at K.C.’s Bagel Cafe in Waterbury, and then drove to Mount Mansfield in Stowe. Downtown Stowe looks like a cute town with many shops and eateries, although we did not walk around it during our trip. I would love to come back and do a trip focused around the Stowe area.

Mt. Mansfield (Stowe)

When we arrived to Mt. Mansfield, we paid to drive our car to the top of the mountain on the famous Auto Toll Road. The cost to drive up is $26 for one vehicle with one person, plus $9.50 per additional passenger. With six of us in one vehicle, it costed $73.50 plus tax to do this excursion. Driving up the 4.5 mile windy road can be nerve-wracking for some as it is steep and you need to yield to cars driving down.

Despite my slight nerves, this was one of the coolest things we did on the entire trip. The drive offers beautiful views of the Adirondacks and even Lake Champlain from a distance. There are different points along the way that you can park your car and take in the breathtaking views of the ski trails in the off season. We drove up to the highest parking lot at an elevation of 3,850 feet where the visitor center is. From the visitor center, there are a few different hiking trails offered, but we decided to keep it short and sweet and jump straight to the view. We took a ten minute walk through a wooded area next to the visitor center, which leads to a stunning viewpoint overlooking Vermont’s mountainous landscape.

Ben & Jerry’s Factory

After driving back down to the bottom of Mt. Mansfield, we drove to the Ben & Jerry’s factory in Waterbury. We all enjoyed delicious ice cream, and while official tours of the factory were not being offered at the time we visited due to Covid, we were still able to walk around the property. We explored the flavor graveyard which showcases tombstones of retired flavors, and grabbed delicious ice cream sundaes. After our sweet treat at the Ben & Jerry’s factory, we enjoyed a relaxing evening at our AirBnB.

Sunday (Day 4)

Shelburne Farms

On Sunday, the last day of our amazing getaway, we spent a few hours exploring Shelburne Farms in Shelburne, VT. Shelburne Farms is a non-profit, working farm spread out over 1400 acres, offering many walking trails. We made our way to the farm barn to see the animals, and then continued on a long walk to the formal gardens and Lake Champlain. You can drive your car closer to the formal gardens and inn to save time on walking, but it is a beautiful walk if you have a few hours to spare. I recommend giving yourself at least 2 hours here (we spent almost 4) as it truly has a lot to offer and is very spread out. The farm has a market where visitors can purchase farm fresh cheese, produce and other goods.

An Incredible Creemee Find

After spending a lovely afternoon exploring Shelburne Farms, we headed back to our AirBnB in Richmond, packed our bags, and began our drive back home to New Jersey. We stopped at a gem of a dessert spot in North Ferrisburg, VT (about a 25 minute drive from Richmond) called Vermont Cookie Love. This bakery sells incredible creemee’s (I had a maple and coffee twist), hard ice cream, and fresh baked cookies. This was totally a sweet way to end our amazing weekend in the Green Mountain State!

• Drove to Mt. Mansfield in Stowe (recommend walking around downtown Stowe if you have time – looked like a cute town with shops/food etc…)
• Drove our car up Mt. Mansfield and was able to drive to parking lot A which is highest area you can drive to where you can access hiking trails)
• We did a short 10 minute trail hike to a nice viewpoint
• Drove from Mt. Mansfield to the Ben & Jerry’s Factory in Waterbury, and checked out the flavor graveyard (tours were closed when we visited)

Sunday (Day 4)

• Walked around Shelburne Farms and made our way to the farm barn to see the animals, and then continued on a long walk to the formal gardens and lake
