This past Sunday, I visited Riamede Farm in Chester, New Jersey for the opening day of their 2022 apple picking season! I also visited this North-Jersey farm last year, and had a blast! Riamede Farm offers admission to New Jersey’s oldest pick-your-own apple orchard with over 68 acres of property and 34 acres of orchards. Most of their trees were planted over half a century ago, giving that old-fashioned apple picking feel! This Labor Day weekend 2022 is their first full weekend open to the public for apple picking, and this is an activity you don’t want to miss out on!
ADMISSION TO THE FARM
Address: 122 Oakdale Road, Chester, NJ (Hours: 7 days/week; 9am to 4:30pm)
Riamede Farm is officially kicking off their apple picking season this labor day weekend 2022! Admission to Riamede Farm is free for children 5 & under. Adults and children 6+ need to pay $2/pp on weekdays to enter the farm, and $7/pp on weekends/holidays. Tickets can be reserved and purchased here. It is recommended to purchase tickets in advance due to the high number of people the farm can potentially receive on weekends. If you do not reserve tickets prior to visiting, there is no guarantee you will be able to enter the farm.
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN YOUR TICKET?
Each ticket to Riamede Farm includes admission to their apple orchard and other produce fields that are open during your time of visiting. For instance, when I visited this past Sunday, August 28, I had access to the varieties of apples that were ready for picking, plus access to u-pick tomatoes and sunflowers. The pumpkin patch was not open yet when I visited, but will be opening mid-to-late September. You can reference this page to see what’s ripe currently at Riamede Farm for picking. Apples are around $2 per pound here, and there is also a small charge per stem picked for sunflowers, or bags of tomatoes.
Upon presenting your tickets and entering the farm, you will receive a Riamede apple bag to place your picked apples in. They also offer wagon rides that take you around the farm and orchard. This is a fun activity for families and a great way to see the farm without having to walk as much. The wagon ride is available on weekends only, and is weather dependent!
FOOD AT THE FARM
At the entrance/exit of Riamede Farm are a few food vendors and booths where you can order a variety of fair-like foods. They have chicken tenders, funnel cakes, ice cream, and more! When I visited, my boyfriend and I ordered a pop-tart deep-fried in funnel cake batter with ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate & caramel drizzle, and topped with fruit pebbles ($13). It was so delicious and decadent; I felt like a kid at a fair! I suggest to bring some cash with you just in case. The food vendors and farm accept credit cards, but if they are having technological issues with the terminals, it could affect this.
Riamede Farm also has a little market store you’ll go through as you exit the farm to pay for your u-pick produce/apples. In this store, your can purchase the most delicious, hot apple cider doughnuts, fresh apple cider, and other treat/snacks.
THE BEST APPLE PICKING IN NORTH JERSEY
Apple picking at Riamede Farm in Chester, NJ does not disappoint! The staff are always so friendly here, and the process of getting in and out of the farm is smooth. Admission is fairly priced, and they have over 40 varieties of apples to pick throughout the season, plus other produce fields typically. You can get some fun food here, and their apple cider doughnuts are some of the BEST!
