New Jersey is known for its amazing pizza scene for a good reason. With a plethora of pizzerias to choose from, it can be hard to decide which ones to try. As a local, I’ve had a good amount of pizza in the Garden State and have decided to share some of my personal favorites, plus some popular spots that are on my bucket list to visit! Here are 10 pizza places in New Jersey to try in 2023, in no particular order!
1. Vic’s in Bradley Beach
Address: 60 Main St, Bradley Beach, NJ 07720
Vic’s Italian Restaurant in Bradley Beach has been a personal favorite of my family for years! This family-owned pizzeria has been serving up delicious thin-crust pizza since 1947, and it truly never gets old. The sauce is made from scratch and the toppings are always fresh.
2. Talula’s in Asbury Park

Talula’s wood-fired pizza is a must-try!!! The crust is crispy and chewy, and the toppings are unique and flavorful. Talula’s is one of my favorite pizza spots in Monmouth County, and I love how they are always adding seasonal specials to their menu. Talula’s even offers vegan pizza options if that interests you! If you are in Asbury Park, I highly recommend checking out Talula’s on Cookman Ave!
3. Apulia in Hoboken

Apulia in Hoboken is a recent find of mine and boy am I glad I tried this spot! This authentic Neapolitan pizzeria uses imported ingredients from Italy to make its pizza. The crust is light and airy, and the toppings are fresh and delicious. In addition to having amazing pizza, their homemade pasta is also incredible as well as their quaint ambiance!
4. Razza in Jersey City
Address: 275/277 Grove St, Jersey City, NJ 07302
Razza’s pizza looks like a work of art. The dough is fermented for at least 48 hours, giving it a complex flavor, and the toppings are sourced from local farms. Razza has been on my pizza bucket list for a while now, and I definitely want to give it a try in 2023!
5. Star Tavern in Orange
Address: 400 High St, City of Orange, NJ 07050
This legendary pizzeria has been around since 1945 and is known for its super thin-crust bar pies. I haven’t tried Star Tavern yet, but I hear that the sauce is sweet and the cheese is perfectly melted. Star Tavern is a local favorite with its nearly 3,000 Google reviews and 4.5-out-of-5-star rating.
6. Porta (Multiple Locations)

Porta is a popular eatery known for its delicious wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizzas. The restaurant has a cozy and vibrant atmosphere and offers three locations in New Jersey. I’ve personally been to the Asbury Park and Jersey City locations and they’ve never disappointed! In addition to pizza, Porta also serves a variety of Italian-inspired dishes, along with a decent selection of beers, wines, and cocktails. The restaurant is a great spot for a casual meal or a night out on the town.
7. De Lorenzo’s Tomato Pies in Robbinsville

De Lorenzo’s pizza is made with a unique, tomato-based sauce and is cooked in a coal-fired oven. The crust is crispy and the toppings are always fresh. De Lorenzo’s is a local favorite in Robbinsville for those seeking a tasty tomato pie, and it’s on my radar of NJ pizza spots to try.
8. S. Egidio in Ridgewood
Address: 17 N Broad St, Ridgewood, NJ 07450
S. Egidio is a quaint, Italian-style restaurant located in Ridgewood, New Jersey. The restaurant specializes in traditional Neapolitan-style pizza, cured meats, fresh pasta, and espresso-based drinks. Moreover, the small restaurant has a rustic, cozy atmosphere, and is a popular spot for both dine-in and takeout orders. S. Egidio is known for its high-quality ingredients and pizza, and is a personal favorite of mine!
9. Tacconelli’s Pizzeria (Multiple Locations)

Tacconelli’s Pizza is a spot I have not tried yet, but is well known in the South Jersey/Philly area! The family-owned pizzeria has two locations in New Jersey; one in Maple Shade and one in Haddonfield. Tacconelli’s is known for its fresh ingredients and thin-crust pizza that has just the right amount of chewiness. This small and cozy joint is worth a try if you are in the South Jersey/Philly area, and it’s been added to my NJ pizza bucket list!
10. Song E Napule in Rutherford

Song E Napule is a highly-rated Neapolitan-style pizzeria with two locations in NYC and one in Rutherford, NJ. Their pizza is known for being authentic and delicious, with a crispy crust and high-quality toppings. They use traditional ingredients imported from Italy, including San Marzano tomatoes, mozzarella di bufala, and extra virgin olive oil. Overall, if you’re a pizza lover in the Rutherford area, Song E Napule is definitely worth checking out for its delicious and authentic Neapolitan-style pizza! I hope to visit here in 2023 as I am a sucker for an authentic Neapolitan-style pizza!
