Summer is the perfect time to explore the beach towns of New Jersey. With miles of sandy beaches, boardwalks, and a plethora of activities, it’s no wonder that New Jersey is a favorite summer destination for many. In this blog post, I will share ten of the best beach towns in New Jersey for summer fun, in no particular order!
1. Cape May
Located on the southern tip of New Jersey, Cape May is known for its Victorian architecture, charming streets, and picturesque beaches. You can spend your day lounging on the beach, exploring the lighthouse, or taking a stroll on the promenade. The Washington Street Mall is also a must-see, as well as the beautiful Congress Hall. While in the area, I highly recommend popping over to Beach Plum Farm in West Cape May for delicious eats and stunning nature/scenery.
2. Ocean City
Ocean City is one of the most family-friendly beach towns in New Jersey, with its boardwalk, amusement park, and water park. In addition to the usual beach activities, you can also go fishing, kayaking, or take a dolphin-watching tour.
3. Asbury Park
Asbury Park is a popular destination for those looking for music and entertainment. With its live music venues, restaurants, and bars, you can spend your day enjoying the sun and sand and your evening listening to music. A few of my favorite eateries in Asbury Park include Talula’s, Porta, Loteria, and Cookman Creamery! While in the area, I recommend checking out Ocean Grove as they also have a beautiful stretch of boardwalk as well as a cute main street!
4. The Wildwoods
The Wildwoods consist of Wildwood, North Wildwood, and Wildwood Crest, and have plenty to offer. The most popular of the three, Wildwood, is a bustling beach town with three miles of boardwalk, amusement parks, and water parks. It’s perfect for families with kids who love the excitement of rides and amusement! The beaches at The Wildwoods are also all free to get on, which isn’t neccessarily common in New Jersey. The Wildwoods are also a great day trip from Cape May as the towns are not too far from each other.
5. Long Beach Island
Long Beach Island is a peaceful beach town with beautiful beaches, wildlife preserves, and a quaint downtown area. You can go fishing, crabbing, or just relax on the beach and take in the natural beauty. If you are into amusement, then be sure to check out Fantasy Island in Beach Haven during your visit. A local favorite for good eats is The Chicken or the Egg, commonly called CHEGG, located in Beach Haven.
6. Belmar
Belmar is a small beach town with a lively boardwalk, beach bars, and sometimes live music. You can rent a bike and explore the town or take a surf lesson at one of the many surf schools. Belmar is certainly a popular beach town for college-aged groups and older to rent houses and spend summer weekends.
7. Point Pleasant Beach
Point Pleasant Beach is another family-friendly beach town with its aquarium, boardwalk, and amusement park. The Jenkinson’s Boardwalk is a classic Jersey Shore spot you can’t miss if you are into family-friendly rides, arcades, boardwalk eats, and mini-golf! You can also go crabbing, fishing, or take a paddleboard tour of the area.
8. Atlantic City
Atlantic City is known for its casinos and nightlife, but it’s also a decent beach town. A great thing about visiting the Atlantic City beach is that entry is free. Most beaches in New Jersey require a paid beach badge between Memorial Day and Labor Day. You can spend your day lounging on the beach, exploring the boardwalk, or taking a boat tour.
9. Sea Isle City
Sea Isle City is a laid-back beach town with a two-mile boardwalk and plenty of restaurants and shops. You can go kayaking, parasailing, or just relax on the beach.
10. Avalon
Avalon is a beautiful beach town with pristine beaches, high-end shopping, and dining. You can take a yacht charter, go fishing, or just enjoy the sun and sand.
Overall, New Jersey has something for everyone when it comes to beach towns. From family-friendly boardwalks to quaint beach towns, you can find your perfect summer destination in New Jersey!
